It will be much better in the new terminal where there is only one area.
Also, the current terminal isn't set up to allow for more and better retail/restaurants.

You got to be kidding me. Why not just build a government run mall???
You people want a mall with airplane gates as if you think there is enough traffic in MSY to support the shopping in ATL or DEN.
You want to shop---turn concourse A into a shopping mall.

Nothing at all wrong with it's location. Whatever inefficiencies you think exist could be corrected where it is at.
How does it seem less efficient than say Nashville??

Tell me what is wrong with it?
1) it is insanely expensive to maintain.
2) It had a tremendous amount of deferred maintenance that's coming due
3) There was no flexibility in security. They had to maintain security in three terminals instead of moving capacity around.
4) Baggage claim was always nothing but problems for me - lost luggage, delayed luggage, broken belts, etc
5) Not enough places to eat / get something past security. Too many places before security. While i agree that no one is flying into the airport just to eat, plenty of people want a good meal while they are waiting to fly out, and they want to do it after going through security.
Also, there is this... we put up with a lot of BS living here in NOLA. Why can't we have something nice and new and shiny for once in our lives?
If, due to the way these things are financed, the taxpayer cost is the same if it's new or rebuilt, why can't we have new?

You are such a dumbass in every airport thread for the past four years.
Keep up the good work.

OF course that is a relative comparison. TSA in MSY is not any worse than in other airports and I usually get through very quickly.

I dread the TSA experience at two airports in the US.
Charleston, SC because they are painfully slow/thorough.
MSY because its an absolute crapshoot. And I have PreCheck.

TSA is terrible. Having 1 main TSA entrance is one of the highlights of the new airport.

Nope. Not even close.
Anyone with half a brain knows the airport should be pushed back due to the current progress of the construction.

I beg to differ. I fly pretty often and at one point was at MSY every weekend for several months straight. I never saw such bureaucracy and incompetence at work on such a large scale in quite some time.
Had one agent get pissy when I left my laptop in the bag even though I was precheck and decided to make a huge power tripping ordeal about it. When I wrote a letter about this I was basically told: "we make up our own rules here".
However, in Charlotte; Richmond, VA; and even rinky-dink Huntington Tri-State Airport in West Virginia seem to have a grasp on moving people through security fairly quickly and without issue.

Bet you $100 maintenance cost will not go down.

I agree but not $1.3 billion worth.

3) There was no flexibility in security. They had to maintain security in three terminals instead of moving capacity around.
quote:see maintenance and personnel. Do you expect either to be improved in a new terminal???

If there were enough demand for more eating spots to support more spots I am sure they would be in the existing terminal now. They could move TSA into the terminal in front of B and A and use all of A for food vendors if you want.
I have never gone hungry in MSY nor have you. Who wants to get to the terminal so far ahead of their flight to have a sit down meal?? Have you tried to eat past TSA at Midway??
Spend a billion so a very few people not satisfied with the food offerings at MSY can have more while roads suck, SWB sucks and taxes are high. Where is the logic there??

Why can't we have something nice and new and shiny for once in our lives?
You get what you vote for. Why can't the existing terminal be shiny? How long will the new one be shiny???
Posted on 4/11/19 at 2:18 pm to LSUFanHouston
The new airport will have 6 baggage claim belts compared to 14 at the current airport. This will lead to a free for all with baggage handlers trying to drop bags. It will likely be worse at the new airport if you are complaining about the baggage claim system at the current airport.

It will mean LONGER TSA lines you watch.

IP Freely really is one of the worst. Even people who hate the new terminal agree that the current MSY is terrible.
ETA: MSY has TONS of traffic, in fact it is one of the fastest growing airports in the country and passenger count was over 13 million in 2018. LINK

No. TSA will only have to staff 1 entry point and not 3.
