OK, that makes it a little more clear to me where his opinion is coming from. Thanks for the info.

Spann said contractors discovered the problem before they covered the pipe in concrete.

"We’re very fortunate we found the sewer line issue when we did," he told the board. "If we had discovered it after opening, we would have no functioning bathrooms. … It allows us to address it before opening the terminal."

They should honestly delay it until the flyover access is finished.

If they keep delaying the opening, it may happen that way.

I'm still confused as to what the plan is for getting passengers to the new terminal.

Were/are they planning to shuttle everyone over from the current parking structure to the new terminal?

It’s amazing how stupidity is in this thread from people who have no clue what they are talking about.

I promise you I have first-hand knowledge of what I'm talking about.

There are parking structures at the new terminal. Any usage of the current structures, rental car facility, and 3rd party lots will require a shuttle.

So how do you get over there? Exit Loyola, and drive thru the hood? Are they going to use PMC armed convoys?

The cost of the fix for the nearly half-mile of pipe will be $7.5 million, said Chris Spann, the consultant who spoke to the board Thursday.

He said that $35 million in extra funding obtained recently by the airport — including $19 million from the Federal Aviation Administration — will cover the extra sewer cost as well as a litany of small improvements.

So what this means is that we have only identified the first $28 million dollars in cost overruns involving other issues that haven't been made public yet!

How are the fresh water lines coming into the new airport doing? We shouldn't be worried about those lines sinking or breaking apart should we?

We did work early on at the airport but are still in close out with our contract. This May 15th date was known by all major parties that it was never going to be met even when they set it after the sewer delay. I never understood why they came out with May 15th in the first place.

Mitch the bitch Landriue and his crooked fricking cousin Landriue Conrete are quite the theives

I hope someone at the AG’s office investigates this entire shitshow as well as the Bourbon Street fiasco

The city or someone in Baton Rouge needs to appoint a special council

The original plans called for a $598 million facility. The expansion decision bumped that up to $993 million. As of late 2018, the project cost was just over $1 billion, including the cost of fixing the sewer line.

At least a year later than originally expected for opening and only about $400 million over budget. NOLA doing NOLA things

-- The total cost of $1.3 billion for the terminal and roadways to it is about twice the $650 million estimate touted in 2013 by then-New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and the airport’s outside consultants. That's partly because costs have grown and partly because the original price tag didn't include major roadwork. [Solution: None because it will be double that by the time all of the problems are found out]

-- Although the new terminal is about three-quarters of a mile closer to Interstate 10, drivers will likely encounter traffic tie-ups, possibly significant ones, getting there via Loyola Drive in Kenner. That’s because the planned flyovers from the interstate won’t be ready until at least 2023 — in part because of poor planning.

-- The terminal is now scheduled to open a year after the original date. The latest delay was caused by the need to build a new sewage pipe for the terminal after the one that was built could no longer operate because of shifting soils. [Solution: Port O'Lets]

-- The new airport access road off Loyola Drive cuts in half a poor, mostly black neighborhood in Kenner, a development that has upset residents but attracted little attention from Landrieu, other local officials and the Aviation Board. [Solution: Take down any monuments in the area]

-- The new long-term parking lot won’t be ready when the new terminal opens. For the first couple of months, departing passengers who want to use cheaper long-term parking will have to park in a lot by the existing terminal and take a shuttle to the new one. Arriving passengers who want to rent a vehicle will have to take a shuttle bus back to the existing rental car facility next to the current terminal. [Solution: Pedicabs]
