quote:

Ronnie Virgets, a thoroughly rounded, freewheeling writer who could hold forth in a distinctive New Orleans accent on such diverse topics as modern literature, horse racing and the foibles of his fellow citizens, died Monday night (May 20) at Ormond Nursing Home in Destrehan. He was 77.

The cause of death has not been determined, said Lynne Jensen, his longtime companion.

Bummer. He was a fixture at The Fairgrounds.

How old is that footage? I don't think I saw one business that's still around.

Sad. His voice was one of a kind. I bet it was dementia. RIP

Another NOLA "character" gone away.

Does this generation have anyone taking their place? Doesn't seem like it? Who is the next Ronnie Virgets, Frank Davis, etc?

Last of a certain kind of New Orleanian. The city doesn't produce these kind of characters anymore.

Thanks for sharing. I lived on magazine for a few years back around the turn on the century.

Good times.
