the best part of this thread is the people who show up and are like
don't have to smell like smoke
...who are arguing 2 pages later about all these new concerns about health and shite
of course this isn't about using the government to legislate their preferences. no no no. this is all about health!
now that we established it's about health...well any other issue that may cause health but i like....oh no that's not the same
not because i like it...not at all!

the heart of this discussion is a behavior that produces a substance that creates a negative externality. end of story. that same problem applies to things like seafood and peanuts, as they create negative externalities as well
so you're telling me if I have a nut allergy, and im sitting next to a bowl of nuts at a bar, is the just as detrimental to my health as someone smoking a cigarette right next to me?

What are we talking about here? If you want to smoke go to your house, camp, vehicle, whatever and smoke all the cigarettes you want. Smoke 100 at a time...who gives a shite.
Forget the "law." You have to be a massive tool to say "enjoying this cigarette is more important that being a dick to everyone else in this room."

have you ever heard stories about schools and how they deal with nut allergies?
They ban peanuts

Way to dodge the question counselor.

I have to say this, 37 pages of back and forth, and the bottom line is that this one sentence summarizes what is going on here. There's no getting around it. Some people want the government to legislate things they don't like, but stay out of the way of the things they do like. Bottom line.

and you telling private property owners they can't allow smoking in their property? that's just being the nicest person ever i take it?

it's certainly more detrimental to a portion of the population than smoking is to non-smokers

exactly
i try not to draw that line with consenting adults, whether it's who they want to marry, what drug they want to use, or if they want to allow smoking within a building on their property.

i didn't duck anything. the implication of banning, other than being a direct parallel to this discussion and thus being applicable, is that it IS dangerous to people...so dangerous that they believe they need to ban it

yea, that goes for both sides.

not my side
i don't think this applies to the side of anyone arguing the same as me in this thread, either

Private property? Its a business Holmes. You want the FDA to keep making sure your favorite restaurant isn't serving you rat meat? Oh but wait...its a PRIVATE business they can serve all the rat they want.

When you say both sides, you mean smokers vs non-smokers? Or government vs. people? Or something else?
