Dude was convicted of taking bribes while in office

And now he's back on the City Council. Cracks me up.

He is very well liked, though.

I'm 100% convinced that the next mayor of New Orleans will be Oliver Thomas, a convicted felon. I think its inevitable.

Moreno likely to run as well, if she doesn’t win next LA Governor election (which I’d call 50/50 today).

Crime was as bad or worse in NOLA three decades ago?

quote:

New Orleans has had the nation’s highest murder rate for any big city a dozen times since 1993, with 424 murders in 1994 at the height of the city’s bloodletting. The city’s murder rate that year stood at 86 murders per 100,000 residents, the single worst ever reported by a big American city.

It’s unclear whether Louisiana’s official streak as the state with the highest murder rate will continue into a 32nd year — the official F.B.I. tally will be released in September. But once patterns are established, they seem hard to break.

You realize there are ways to bypass paywalls?

And anyways I quoted the relevant paragraph to respond to the previously posed question.

What

I would put a Democrat winning the next LA Gov election given the current climate as next to zero, especially as one as extremely liberal at Moreno. Moreno has NO chance winning a state wide race.

I could see her or JP Morell being the next mayor though if OT doesn't run or the citizens are actually smart for once

My sister is a white liberal with a cushy government job and she lives in a condo Uptown. She swears all of NO's problems are caused by the "Republican legislators." I'll reply back with "well Lafayette doesn't have severe issues like that." You should see the mental gymnastics she performs to cope with the facts.

You're right but Democrats can easily win here if they say they are pro life. Louisiana has a history of populism. A fiscal leftist and some what socially conservative could easily win here but thankfully those don't really exist (not that RINOs are any better).

Maybe but I think after 8 years of JBE and the covid stuff even a remotely competent R is going to win.

Certainly not someone as left as Moreno. By New Orleans standards she is a little liberal, by State standards she is left of Mao.

Very openly Pro-Choice etc. She would have ZERO chance at any state-wide election.

New Orleans itself was the site of multiple protests in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, with some of those protests turning chaotic and violent

Meh. Most of those gatherings were pretty lame and I don't really call any violence. I really thought N.O. would have been much worse throughout that garbage of a summer.
The city is strange though. They don't get into that national movement crap or even do the thing about burning stuff up because the local team wins a championship.

There is a somewhat popular chef/owner that I've noticed recently who is moving to Old Metairie. He's dealt with hell and had a few break ins for his vehicle in June with smashed windows to end it. He posted last week that three days before he was to move he had given up and left nothing in his vehicle and left the doors unlocked and the scum had got into his vehicle anyway and rummaged around.
Alot of stories like that going around.

I will be genuinely interested to see how the millennial generation reacts to 1980s levels of violet crime.

Going from 119 murders in 2019 to likely 350 murders in 2022 should result in a complete overhaul of spending priorities and protests in front of city hall.

Instead there will probably be a vote to increase or renew the millage to fund the council for aging or the libraries on a random Saturday in august. There will be no public discussion or exposure of the issue and the limited tax base will continue to fund ancillary services rather than the core issues of public safety, streets and drainage.

If Oliver Thomas promises to bring back the skull cracking NOPD of the 90s he’ll win in a landslide.

The younger generation is so brainwashed that they have to come up with wacky shite.

Even remotely expressing right of center views and their lives are over on social media.
