If I were coming from out of town and most likely bouncing around the FQ a good bit, Id stay at the Westin.

The World War II museum is not to be missed. As someone else pointed out, plan on spending the day. Hit the Aquarium of the Americas, take a streetcar ride and have lunch at Mandina's or Camellia Grill. Take a ferry ride to Algiers and a horse and carriage ride through the French Quarter. Visit New Orleans Museum of Art and enjoy City Park. Visit the zoo at Audubon Park.

Ghost tour off St. Peter is a good way for tourist groups to spend an hour or so.
Maple Leaf for Rebirth was always in my to-do list. I was a tourist though.

Windsor Court or Montleone
Will there be kids? City Park has a lot of cool stuff these days.
The carriage rides really do give you a good little tour

it's tacky for locals but they would probably enjoy a swamp tour
I took my husband on a sunset swamp tour on an airboat his first visit to NOLA and he loved it. It was actually the first time I had ever been on an airboat as well. It was just us and the tour guide on the boat so the guide went faster in the boat at our request. Guide caught a baby gator and brought it on the boat for my husband and I to hold for a picture, then released back in the water.
I've done the other slower swamp tour with an ex bf (also from AZ) and it wasn't horrible either.
But out of the two....airboat one is much more fun(and more expensive).

Ritz or Monetelone but cant go wrong with most of those. Le Pavillion puts you a little out of the way if you want to walk around downtown compared to the other places
