Looking at Pecan Island which is a little over an hour drive from Lafayette. Probably 45 minutes from Abbeville.

It makes sense. While they are at it, fire up all the infrastructure we had from the precious space program. Louisiana cna really benefit from this if theu dont get greedy

I know it doesn’t, but there would need to be better road access for such a large facility.
Definitely would need to have some sort of 4 lane road headed to the site from future 49 to Pecan Island.
Most traffic is likely going to be from boats instead of surface roads. I wonder how many marine transportation companies woke up this morning with a hard on knowing a new line of business maybe on the horizon hauling for SpaceX.

I’ve fished down there for decades. The coastal marsh is a critical estuary and migratory bird flyway. I’m not happy about the potential loss of the beautiful coastal zone down there.
If they moved the development a few miles north of Pecan Island it would have less impact.

They want to have the launch path go over water as much as possible. If it’s a few miles inland then the areas under the flight path have more impacts from noise and vibration.

I expect this to help Abbeville, but I’m guessing most will live in Youngsville area. The Texas launch site employs 3,400 with an average salary around $176,000. Even if this site employs only 1,000-1,500 that’s an incredible average salary for LA. I’m hoping this comes to fruition.

Could be the development of the century for South LA if it comes to fruition at a meaningful scale. Sorry about the ducks but they’re going to have to go somewhere else. With the state circling the drain, this is too big of a deal to lose out on over some ducks.

In Texas they developed Starbase and incorporated as their own city. They are building everything including houses for employees that you would find in a normal city. There will be a lot of jobs created beyond just the working on rockets, they will need employees to run everything in the city.

Ducks will still be there but without hunters to shoot at them.

I can’t imagine Abbeville benefits. It used to be a really pretty town where movies filmed for its aspirational Americana aesthetic. Now the courthouse and the town square is the only thing that isn’t crumbling.
Unfortunately a couple families own all the property and nobody wants to sell and nobody will repair their own for fear the others disproportionately benefit financially. The result is 40 years waiting the other out….No modern business is wading into that mess.

It will be interesting to see what they do to prepare for the next hurricane. There's good reason why there are only about 100 full time residents in Pecan Island now. When the last storm hit the surge was about 14 feet at the coastal marsh.

All that LNG infrastructure did fine for laura
Its easier to harden industrial stuff than single family homes
