While I cannot argue it is a huge mess this is a worthwhile project. Nola is a major destination for tourism regardless of the crap we give the place and incompetence running the city. Not sure if it still that way but when I flew to London on the direct flight it was packed with people from France every time. Also, as another poster stated, the current one is crap.

Cost $400 million, they stole the other $600 million.....plus Mitch got his name on it....
Exactly what NO needed....
This will be a shitshow of epic proportions......Lee Zurik will have a field day, and will keep him busy for years on these stories...

I made fun of this whole project
But this place looks legitimately nice
About time
I always said MSY was simply a room you sit in to wait for your flight and nothing else
Dingy. Dim. Stuffy. Gross.

If the new airport functions better for flight traffic then that’s one thing. But replacing an airport bc it’s dirty or outdated seems silly. No one hangs out at an airport for fun. No one visits or avoids a city based on how pretty the airport is. It’s just a place to pass through, not a destination.

The new airport will allegedly function a lot better for the airlines and TSA.
And will be way better for the flyer once you get inside.

Who cares how nice a city's airport is? I've flown into great cities that have terrible airports and thought nothing less of the city. Does anyone visit a city because of its airport? Does anyone make the decision to return or not to return to a city based on an airport's appearance?
This money was swindled from the people of New Orleans who have real need for a functioning water and sewerage system.

The longest running non-fast food chain restaurant in the New Orleans area, right in the heart of Uptown-Garden District

I fly back into MSY on the 7th the 2nd day. I fully expect it to suck beyond my imagination.

Yeah just read the FAQ. I am wrong. I assumed they would then renovate the old one while the new one was put into service
I thought they were going to use the old terminal for freight. Did plans change or did I completely make that up in my feeble little brain?

So is NYC, and LaGuardia is an absolute dump but that doesn't stop people from coming.
The old msy wasn't great but certainly wasn't the worst either. Maybe Nola did a new airport but it probably should have down the pecking order on other infrastructure projects in the city.
