The only thing I think will be "real bad" will be getting off I-10 Westbound at Loyola, from say 4 - 7 pm during the week. Because you have everyone headed to North Kenner and you have everyone headed to the airport. I can see the traffic backing up down the offramp. But once you make that turn left, and you are on Loyola, it should be fine.

I could also see random other times there are traffic issues, the mornings after major events/conventions in the city.

Most of the traffic problems at the old airport were due to backups from the garages and from departures. Some people will want to use the economy garage so they won't be in that pattern, and there is more space now for departures.

But routine weekday and weekend traffic shouldn't be that bad. It's MSY, not IAH =)

This is my feeling about the traffic.

People are acting like the number of people going to and from the airport is about to double or triple. Y'all been to the airport recently? It's been nearly empty most times I've flown out in the past few years.

You are adding additional traffic to already used surface roads. The Airport Access Road was only used for the Airport basically.

Now you have active roads with lights getting additional use. So there will be increased traffic.

I don't disagree that there will be increased traffic until the flyover is completed.

I'm just lol'ing at the people acting like it's going to be some traffic apocalypse

The growth of the airport has been pretty remarkable the last few years. Well beyond what anyone has expected.

Just parking there has become a real chore.

Is the only entrance and exit into the airport going to be the access at Vets and Loyola?

What’s Bainbridge going to lead to?

I tried to drive pass the guard on Bainbridge the other day and she chased me down I told her I thought the new airport was open and I asked her, “I thought this road was open, it’s not open anymore??”

She got pissed and said, “it never was open, get your arse outta here”

she was mad

Bainbridge leads to the airport. Kind of the wrong side of the airport, but everything is accessible.

Supposedly that will be a main access for shuttles back to the old airport.

I don't think it is the logical choice, but once you go there you will notice.

Not sure why you were blocked going down Bainbridge. There are still plenty of businesses to access.

So, if you are coming up on 310 from the south how do you access the airport? I used to get off on that exit before it merges with i-10.

It was all the way at the end past all the businesses.

I saw her and the detour signs, I just wanted to see if I could sneak past her.

Go to i10, get off on Loyola in Kennah-brah, take right. Drive into airport.

What a bitch. Blocking access to an airport you knew was closed.

Fwiw, the part of Loyola was monitored as well.

I didn’t say she was a bitch. I didn’t even get mad at her

I know. I tried that first, but the road was actually blocked that day. They were pouring asphalt at the intersection

They were finishing that intersection a few weeks ago.

I think the biggest complaint will be people waiting for shuttles to the old terminal parking. I'm sure the plan is a shuttle every 8 minutes or so, but looking at the shuttles they can each hold maybe 1/3 of a typical plane. People are bound to wait.

You are adding traffic onto an exit ramp (which has been expanded) and onto a 1/4 mile (if that) stretch of Loyola (that has been expanded).

yes there will be increased traffic but there is also increased capacity.

Yeah, not many people were going left there previously.

Yes. And considering the RT is probably 10-12 min, I'm guessing there will be at least 2 shuttles operational at all times to the economy garage and hopefully 2 more at all times to rental car.

And hopefully more will come online when capacity calls for it.

Is there a logical place to drop off for the rental counters? Across from the credit card lot I guess?
