Not sure why I thought of this, but I’d much rather go to a Fulton Alley type of bowling establishment, then say Tiffany Lanes in Mandeville. Why is it that we don’t see more of these popping up? I know the investment might be huge but to have an upscale alley with great food/cocktails seems to be the way to go.

Don Carter’s in kennabrah. You could be 15 and smoke all the cigarettes you wanted to.

Those pinsetters aint cheap and they aren't easy to maintain either. League bowling is in the gutter now due to a variety of reasons - people don't want to commit to a league, bowling balls cost $200+, USBC dues are way too high, etc. People just want to go one week to get drunk, but the house has to charge higher prices to cover the losses from leagues not being as popular.

If i had a few million in the bank I'd invest in one just because I love bowling, but the average joe isn't going to own it because it's a pretty huge risk.

Other cities in the country (Bigger Cities) have these new modern upscale alleys. I’ve been to Splitsville in Orlando, and that place is friggin awesome! Leather Couches, a couple central Bars, strict dress Code. Just the type of atmosphere you’d want to go with family. These old run down bowling alleys these days families just have no interest I feel.

Anecdotal, but where I bowl at runs leagues every weekday. Thursday night is the big money league and is packed. My USBC dues for this year were $27 but I get what you're saying where someone may not want to put in $20 a week. At least that's what it costs in the league I play in.

For what it's worth, you don't have to buy the fanciest ball in the proshop when starting out.

I got into it over a year ago when a friend convinced me to join a more casual league on Friday nights. It's fun, I spend a few hours with friends and have a good time. It's a shame overall in the country leauge bowling popularity has waned.

Also as far as Tiffany Lanes in Mandeville is concerned, that shouldn't be used as an example of a vintage bowling alley. It's a dump. What's worse is the owner won't do anything with it or even sell it to someone that could do something with it.

The last one I went to was Brooklyn Bowl. Stayed most of the day, ate, drank, bowled. It was a good time but the $500 tab was a bit steep.

Nothing tops an alley that has 40 years of cigarette smoke soaked into the carpet

Colonial Lanes ftmfw

Cheap eats and booze. Bowling is supposed to be cheap exercise.

Why drop all that money at Fulton? Go there if you want other dudes to check your technique out.

think about how topgolf is setup, but apply it to bowling and make it "nicer". There's a few in atlanta but I don't really care for it. You have your own bay with nice leather couch and your own waitress that brings food and drinks. Pretty decent menu. Couple other main bars and some other games on the sides like bocce and darts. Dimly lit. In fact, it's actually just like one big cocktail bar with bowling lanes in it.

Bowling can be expensive as family sport. I once went as family group of 3 adults and 5 kids. It cost nearly 120 dollars once you added the foot disease rental, 2 games per person, and food.

If there isn’t a novelty machine in the men’s room I’m not rolling there.

You seriously bitching about $15/head for a couple of hours of entertainment and food?

Go play in the McDonald’s ball pit next time. You can probably get away with $5/head.

Old school. I love bowling and am pretty competitive, so when I go to these alleys who don’t take their equipment seriously, I get aggravated because the actual bowling suffers. Give me All Star Lanes and $5 pitchers all day every day
