New Japan Pro Wrestling is expanding in the United States... trying to start an offshoot promotion in the States next year. Tonight, the company has its first live televised show from the US as tonight's G1 Special emanates from Long Beach, Ca., which includes the 1st round/quarterfinals of the Tournament to crown the 1st ever IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion.

Figure it'd be fun and something really different to the WWE

Tonight's card:

IWGP Heavyweight Championship Match:
"Rainmaker" Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. "American Nightmare" Cody Rhodes (Ring of Honor World Champion)

IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship Tournament Quarterfinal Match:
"The Cleaner" Kenny Omega vs. "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin

IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship Tournament Quarterfinal Match:
Tetsuya Naito vs. "Stone Pitbull" Tomohiro Ishii

IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship Tournament Quarterfinal Match:
Juice Robinson vs. Zack Sabre, Jr.

IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship Tournament Quarterfinal Match:
"Hangman" Adam Page vs. Jay Lethal

IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship Match:
Guerillas of Destiny (c) vs. War Machine

8-man tag team match:
Taguchi Japan (David Finlay, IWGP Intercontinental Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi, Jay White, IWGP Junior Heavyweight & Ring of Honor Television Champion KUSHIDA) vs. Billy Gunn, Sho Tanaka, Yohei Komatsu, Yoshi Tatsu

8-man tag team match:
Dragon Lee, Jushin Thunder Liger, Titan, Volador, Jr. vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon (Bushi, Evil, Sanada, Hiromu Takahashi)

10-man tag team match:
Bullet Club ("The Under Boss" Bad Luck Fale, "The Villain" Marty Scurll, IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team & Ring of Honor Tag Team Champion Young Bucks [Nick & Matt Jackson] & "Tokyo Playboy" Yujiro Takahashi) v. Chaos (Roppongi Vice [Trent Beretta & Rocky Romero], Mark & Jay Briscoe & Will Ospreay)

I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that grown men actually watch this stuff.

Watched this for the first time last week with my boys. Those guys are crazy! Their mic skills lack but they do moves far riskier than the American stars.

Not any different than grown men watching a fictional TV show like Game of Thrones or Walking Dead.

Crazy that I've seen several on these guys at Indy shows with 200-300 people. ZSJ, Scrull, and Adam Page. Page was in a tag team with Corey Hollis called "Country Strong". The others were probably just in the states and had an open date. ZSJ vs Cedrick Alexander was solid.

ETA--Country Jacked, not country strong.

Wish I had this channel. I get ROH but don't watch it much due to the time slot.

i keep hearing this but I have a hard time grasping it.... maybe it's the complete cheesiness of it and the guys running around in there underwear being a complete caricature.

There is a certain crowd that gravitates towards this entertainment and that should tell you all you need to know.

Seems like most of the fanatical viewers are pre-teens and then once they hit puberty they grow out of it... then there is that certain segment that just doubles down and becomes more entrenched in this type of entertainment. I guess 'eccentric' is a good word to describe these grown men.

But to each his own.

I'm here in Long Beach and meet a couple from Phoenix that came in to see it. There is also a pirate festival that started today. Fun people watching.

Lots of poor people went to Shakespeare's plays back in his time. They even brought rotten food to throw at the performers on stage.
