I have USAA now and they are wonderful.

The sibling living there is not able to join and will need another option.

The legal owner is the estate and it can written in the estates name.
OP needs to hit the bullet and write a citizen DP in estates name.
Sorry for your loss, if the estate is sizable I can recommend the best guys in Louisiana that are located in lake Charles.

‘Sagesure?’

So, if your house is blown down, and you are still required to make payments, are you ‘Sagesure’ they’ll be paying you?

Are you sure? I thought immediate family members could join? My dad is a member and that’s how I joined.

Best path is to open probate and name an administrator as some insurance companies may require articles of administration in order to allow a person to make decisions on behalf of the estate

I would recommend getting someone named independent administrator if possible and not just administrator if everyone is on the same page as this will make dealing with all the property of the estate a lot more efficient (not talking about insurance here)

Sibling living in the home will need an HO4 policy to cover their contents

received a quote from broker with sage as well. premium was great.......but 3% deductible on $750K of coverage is, well, rough.

the dwelling A replacement cost has gone up incredibly quick the last 2-3 years it seem. same house in 2021 was covered at $425K. now no one will touch it for under $700K.

You should take that policy yesterday.
Better than a 100% deductible without insurance.
For replacement cost, I’m guessing home is 2500-3500 sq ft?

i found a premium just a tad bit higher than theirs, so of course having it escrowed it comes out right at $100/mo more for a 2% deductible.

yes, 3503sqt ft.

we just went with Sagesure with E&J out of Sulphur, they were easy to work with and saved us over where we were!

stay away from Goosehead. If you ever need to get anything done service wise from them it is always a 30-40 minute phone call. We recently switched from them to E&J Insurance, and it has been awesome so far.

I lost my Builders Risk policy Monday night midnight. I cannot get any form of insurance from any carrier, in or outside of Louisiana.

I am still waiting on LIGA for payments from IDA. I've been rebuilding with some insurance money that I received before they went bankrupt and used 50,000 of my own money. My understanding is 24 months after any one of the insurance companies that went bankrupt, thousands more lose coverage.

I was paying $1,100.00 a month for Builders Risk and now pay more for mortgage insurance that only protects the mortgage company.

Try Farmer Brown insurance, they are writing policies I'm told.

FYI our governor and Insurance commissioner have been silent on this issue. Except for passing legislation that allows insurance companies an increase of how many customers they are allowed to drop policies for no cause.

He may want to look at how many thousands of voters lost insurance since Jan. It's more than enough to cost him any shot at re-election.
