Yeah, several manufacturers do that. Ford, BMW... even my wife's Equinox had a big subwoofer-like thing in the back that was supposed to somehow cancel unpleasant engine noises.

No, they're stopping all production of all models and aren't shipping anything to dealers until July.

There's no replacement for displacement. 4 cylinders are for Chevy Sparks not trucks.

Why pay all the money for a truck and not be able to do truck things (haul a boat, haul gravel, etc)

I’m not buying a 4 cylinder truck. Period.

I had a 4 cylinder S-10 for a number of years. I didn't need a truck for towing or anything heavy duty. It was perfect for going to Lowe's for lumber and whatnot.

I have a 2.7 Ecoboost and I've never heard this. The engine sounds like a sewing machine but I've otherwise enjoyed it. It does everything I need.

I have a 2.7 Ecoboost as well. I honestly don't give a shite what the engine sounds like. I do know that it has some get up and go.

My 86 4Runner still going strong after 274k miles, and lots of abuse. When the 22re finally gives it up I'll be swapping in a VW tdi.

But in a full size truck. frick that!!! Gotta have a v8. Too much stress on a small displacement engine to try and haul around a lot of weight, and I'm not even talking about towing. My 1/2 ton 4x4 tips the scales at 6200lbs. That's a lot to ask a 4cyl to move around. If you're just city driving, and no towing sure I guess, but not for me.

At my old job, we had a dozen four cylinder Tacoma’s At 8,000 feet, going up the side of a mountain, they just struggled

And god help you if you had something in the truck bed that was heavy.

Exactly what I was going to post.

I've had 2 6 cylinder Ecoboost and I've never seen nor heard any 8 cylinder imitation noise from anywhere.

I do love to hear those turbos spool though.

Pawpaw had a mid 90's half ton with a probably 200hp (at most) V6 that he drug around his bass boat with religiously.

I'm not sure how we've arrived at the point that we think a truck must have 400hp to get around. OP said hes hauling at most a lawnmower sometimes. A turbo 4 banger is perfect for what he wants to do

There isn't any "immitation V8 noise" coming from an Ecoboost. For starters, where the frick is it going to come from? The hidden speakers under the hood? Give me a break.

Sounds like something one of those dorky Chevy lifers came up with on the fly.

Semi tractors may only have 450hp too. Diff is the torque and displacement. More mass to move more weight. Less mass to move the same weight has to work a lot harder. Look at it like a 10" ratchet compared to a 3' breaker bar.

Like I said.... If all you're doing is running around town A to B driving it should be fine. If all you will ever load up is the mower, or a few 2x4s it'll be fine. But I also wouldn't be buying a half ton truck if that's all I'm gonna be doing with it.

Chevy needs to bring back the old school 350. You could get one with a granny geared transmission and pull anything you wanted.

My 2.7 eco tows like 9000 lbs and has 325 Hp and 400 lb ft of torque. That would satisfy the needs of probably 95% of truck drivers. If you don't like the turbo technology that's fine but they are definitely not under powered for most.
