GILD shares are sliding

quote:

The antiviral medicine remdesivir from Gilead Sciences failed to speed the improvement of patients with Covid-19 or prevent them from dying, according to results from a long-awaited clinical trial conducted in China. Gilead, however, said the data suggest a “potential benefit.”

A summary of the study results was inadvertently posted to the website of the World Health Organization and seen by STAT on Thursday, but then removed.

“A draft document was provided by the authors to WHO and inadvertently posted on the website and taken down as soon as the mistake was noticed. The manuscript is undergoing peer review and we are waiting for a final version before WHO comments,” said WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic.

quote:

Gilead spokesperson Amy Flood said the company believes “the post included inappropriate characterization of the study.” Because the study was stopped early because it had too few patients, she said, it cannot “enable statistically meaningful conclusions.” However, she said, “trends in the data suggest a potential benefit for remdesivir, particularly among patients treated early in disease.”

The data (for details, see screenshot below) will be closely scrutinized but are also likely imperfect. The study was terminated prematurely, which could have affected the results. The context that would be provided by a full manuscript is missing, and the data have not been reviewed as normally occurs before publication.

First thing I thought of. The SEC needs to look closely at the trading.

This is based on a Chinese trial of $GILD 's remdesivir.

Are we gonna start trusting what the Chinese say?

Let's see what the remdesivir trials that are being conducted in America indicate.

45 minutes before ft.com came out with the story and said "Gilead drug flops", someone bought 2000 July $87.50 puts for roughly $13.73 with the stock at $82.56. Now the stock is 8% lower and the bid ask is wide $15.95 -$18.25.

Certainly the trade is in the green. Only up $454,000 in about 90 minutes even if they were to get a lousy fill price.

Not bad money if you can get it. They haven't closed the trade yet.

I am sure there are close to 200,000 people who would have liked to have had a chance to take a hot with something that showed promise and probably 500k more over the next year or so who would probably liked to live a little longer than they did.

Spokesman says the report was wrong, they stopped because of lack of subjects. Also, it's still up over where it was from a month ago. All of the "stock sinks" headlines are funny.
