I'm building a house. Can someone give me a FAIR price for two (2)- 3.5 ton HVAC (natural gas heat), complete installation using flexible duct work and 16 seer top type brand like American Standard or Carrier?

just had a complete replacement of outdoor and indoor units and all duct work in house for about $22K two years ago. Not sure if twice the equipment would mean twice the price, so say around $35K ...?

ETA: we used Carrier systems, natural gas heat, and the 22k included demo of old system.

Why dont you just get like 3 mechanical contractors to give you an estimate?

Pick the one you feel most comfortable with. Do you want rec's for mechanical contractors?

Because I have a guy I really want to use. He is working up a price and when he gives it to me I want to know in advance it its fair. If so, I will definitely hire him because of his reliability and reputation.

He'll likely want a rough in draw and then when he sets the units outside, the remainder. Factor that in initial writing of checks. I would almost certainly bet it will be at least 16k but that's minimum. You'll go up according to factors, including your equipment choice, naturally.

Sounds like you're not really sure about the latter.

Imho a ballpark for trane/American standard would be 15k.

You don’t want flex duct Op, as little as possible. It’s not nearly as efficient.

The units should be about $10k, it’s impossible to quote you beyond that without having your house floor plan.

DO NOT only get one bid, lol. At least 3 if not 5.

You are looking at 11-12K for a Trane. Thats top of the line. Stay far away as you can from a Lennox.

2500/ton is a good rule of thumb, plus variables. anything south of 20K and you'll be getting a fair price

Also he’s giving me an option of Carrier, Trane or American Standard. Any recommendations on this?

Unless that's a huge house, something tells me you're pricing regular insulation, and/or your contractor isn't estimating variable speed units. I just built a ~3,300sf house, and have a single 4-ton unit with 3-zones, variable speed. Made possible by spray foam insulation, which was the best decision I ever made. My electric bill is half of what it was in my prior house, which was less than half the size. Always comfortable.

HVAC cost me about $12K. Sprayfoam cost me about $11K.

Hijack-

How much for two 2-ton condensor units with old pads removed and new pads poured (due to undermining from erosion bc previous owner never addressed it so they are sitting sideway)?
