They had another post about it a few days ago but figured I’d put some details in a new thread. Jeff Landry announced the contract on the new Calcasieu River Bridge. It will be a toll but the prices on toll for locals have been reduced significantly to 25 cents. Imperial Calcasieu (5 parish area Calcasieu, Cameron, Allen, Jeff Davis, and Beauregard) get 15% of profits from the toll to go towards new infrastructure. Also a 25% reduction in the whole project if the contract is approved

Paying the toll is hardly out of the ordinary around there

JBE is probably gritting his teeth that he couldn't take credit for it.

And to those State and local folks that tried to convince everyone that the previous proposal and tolls was the best that could be expected and it needed to be pushed through without delay.

Hell yea! Hopefully it doesn’t turn into a never ending project like I-10 between Vinton and Houston

Ask Clay Higgins about the bill thay supplied the federal funding, ask him the amount of federal funding that will pay for it and then ask him if he voted for it.

When he tries to claim this bridge funding due to his involvement, call him a damned liar as he voted against it.

I’ve seen you post this more than once. So you’re saying Higgins voted against a clean bill that contained federal funding for his district? This federal funding was the only thing in that bill?

If there were other items in the bill please list them so everyone will have a complete understanding of the point you’ve repeatedly tried to make.

I sat on that thing for 7 hours Monday night.

LaDOTD was a massive failure. They should have had it brined and sanded.

I haven’t seen anything about 18 wheelers but I’m with you 210 will end up a total cluster with the extra traffic. It’s already getting crazy in the afternoons some days

You got up on it and then got stuck? Honest question, did anyone just get out and walk away?

I got extremely lucky and crossed it about 230 Monday afternoon.

Was heading to work around 415 and rolled up on the I-10 bridge probably about 10-15 minutes before that guy jumped to his death and they shut the bridge down for that.

Had to exit, go under the bridge on the turnaround and head to 210. About 20 minutes after that, that’s when all the trucks started to slide up and down 210.

I missed both of these by a hair.

What was the story behind the guy jumping off the bridge? I’ve heard multiple reasons but never heard a definite answer.

Same. Never heard a confirmation. Originally heard that the traffic was stopped on the bridge and a guy got out. While he was out, a truck started sliding and it knocked him over. That makes zero sense to me, but you never know.

Then Westlake Police posted on their FB page that he just jumped. Nothing about another vehicle. No follow ups. Nothing. Just couldn’t take it anymore, I suppose.

Yeah I’ve heard the same. I would have been aggravated too but I wouldn’t have just jumped 60ft to my death. Plus when he jumped traffic had only been stopped for less than an hour probably. Not like he was stuck there for 7 hours like some people. Just doesn’t make any sense.

As to my comment about Higgins, it was apparent that the infrastructure bill would pass as all the republicans were against it. His yes vote could have been explained as somethingn greatly needed for his district. He chose to keep his 100% voting record with the GOP. Now watch him try to take credit for it.

Now ask yourself this. Trump had 2 years where he had the House and the Senate. No infrastructure but we did get $8 Trillion more in debt during his 4 years. Biden gets in and we have a infrastrucure bill passed within 2 years thanks to the leadership skills of Pelosi. How many speakers of the house have we had since GOP won the house? I rest my case.

There were a few.

One person went down and came back carrying gas. A family group with kids went down and then a couple more. The footing was treacherous. People were barely able to walk it. The woman behind me in a jeep eventually got out and had to sqaut an pee.

When we finally got moving there were 3 or 4 abandoned vehicles to navigate around as you creeped to the top and over. When we eventually got to the top the line stopped again for a while. The wind was howling and the bridge was moving.

Damn. Glad yall made it out. Hindsight is always 20/20, but I would have probably been one of the ones who ditch the car and got out of there.

That infrastructure bill was nothing more than a colossal pork bill by the democrats.
