independent front suspension.
Bronco looks neat, and I'm glad ford decided to make it, but with that drivetrain setup its offroad ability will never sniff a jeep wrangler.

Pretty sure it’s only the first editions that are all gone. You can still reserve the other models.
I reserved a first edition last night.

Which one did you get, the 2 door or 4 door?

The term "Off road ability" is overrated. Here's a guy that took a 1978 Subaru DL wagon on Fins - Things in Moab.

We took our Subaru Tribeca down the Shafer Trail in Moab. I only scraped the frame once. If you're smart and go slow, you'd be amazed where you can go.

Independent Front Suspension, Solid Rear Axle
Every new Bronco comes equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear axle with coil-over shocks in back. An available HOSS, or High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension, is available as part of the Sasquatch package (we'll get to that), with Bilstein position-sensitive shock absorbers all around.
Looks like yes, it does have independent front suspension.

What I mean is that it will never have the front wheel articulation that is possible with a solid front axle. To be fair this really only becomes a concern with pretty extreme stuff like rock crawling, but the point stands that it won't be able to compete with jeeps in that regard.

The OT apparently hates independent front suspension but is in absolute love with the Toyota Land Cruiser...which has had an IFS since what the late 90s.

I am pretty much 100% convinced that you Jeep people just rant on about these things like they matter. As you crawl over pre-planned courses at 2 mph.
A 500 United States Dollar 20 year old Toyota Hilux does better off road every single day for hundreds of miles in mud filled rivers and rock laden landscapes in the Congo jungle than any Jeep with front wheel articulation.
What a joke.

But but the Wrangler doesn’t have it and their drivers have their own special wave!

I’m not hating on Jeep’s, I’d give my third nut for another CJ. I’m just pointing out another OT paradox.
ETA Did you seriously reserve a first edition?

On paper, the axle articulation is pretty close.
quote:
The Badlands also uses a hydraulically actuated front swaybar disconnect too for slow-speed trails. Engineer Groves says the big difference between their system and Jeep is that the Bronco’s can be used under load—so the bar can cycle freely from fully connected to disconnected mode no matter how severe the terrain. Ford says with the front bar disconnected two-door models to score an RTI of 700 on a 20-degree ramp. And four-door models are projected to score a lower RTI of 620. So, compared to the Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited which scored 693, a Bronco’s articulation is very close. On a trail, that means the suspension of these two 4X4s should almost be an even match.

You and I both know that 99% of these vehicles will never see those conditions, so it's a moot point for most.
Plus 3 wheelin' is just as fun as 4 wheelin' (if not more...)

Meh, I like it actually
But it will 100% be the new H3, the official car of the most stereotypical, slightly trashy suburbanite
Doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed, of course
