In your opinion is this a dying job or is this something that has staying power??
Newspapers are done.
Is this a media market that won’t exist in 50 years?
Wish I could post a picture of our favorite Mexican meteorologist

Always go with a used anchor. The depreciation is a real drag.

1. If you are attractive and have a personality, you can make waves as a television meteorologist. You do need some meteorological training eg Mississippi state broadcast meteorology program.
2. If you’re a woman, look damn sexy and be flirtatious.
3. If you are a man, look handsome and aquire at least a BS degree in meteorology from a major school eg OU, Penn State, or Florida State. Pay your dues at small markets and then apply at larger markets.
4. Kiss lots of arse. Be politically correct and have a jolly personality. Bob Breck comes to mind.
5. Join the AMS and attend annual meetings in order to network. Kiss lots of arse at these meetings.
6. Even though you will have competitors at other local stations, play nice with your competition. Your station may not renew your contract and another local station might want to hire you. Never badmouth your competition in public.

Our local 10:00 late news the anchor chick and weather guy are working from home. They are married to each other and she does the news from her garage and he does the weather from the back yard
The same company owns the local NBC, ABC, & Fox stations so they are on three out of four networks.

The pay has dropped considerably for news anchors in almost every level.
