This should scare everyone. Directed energy weapons that are remotely controlled already exist. Given what I've learned, that is all I'll say on this topic.

Autonomous weapons have in fact already been tested and proven to kill. They are called Tesla Model S with the autopilot option, 3 killed in beta testing.

Did you see any video of the way trees had burned in the CA wildfires recently?

Most here are too lazy to watch the video.
I watched it earlier and it is disturbing.
It almost seems to be an exaggeration of current capabilities, but it may not be and even if it is an exaggeration, we will be there soon.

If they can be synchronized for a light show, they can be synchronized for an attack. Check out this video from last year. Drone Light Show China Feb 2017.

I watched. WOW.
What's to stop it?
The hardware & software exist. It would only take someone mass producing and selling to highest bidder.
We know there are evil, cold blooded people out there willing to use them.

Currently you can take down most drones with a directed signal disabler using a raspberry pi, directional antenna, and wi-fi(similar to what Coop used in interstellar) but that's only effective against current tech using wifi itself. Something autonomous like swarm drones would each have independent processing and simple-AI so a signal disabler wouldn't work. I'm not knowledgeable enough on modern circuitry to know if it's possible to damage, but I would think a powerful enough EMP could disable the drones. You would definitely want to direct that magnetic field or risk damaging everything else, but that's pretty much the only practical way right now. I'm sure you can probably build an emp generator(you just need to create a powerful magnetic pulse) using simple hardware supplies, but you can probably size it up if you are willing to think big.
