You seem pretty worked up about this. Strangely so.

Sometimes people find themselves in situations they never imagined. Its stressful, and its human nature to exaggerate and use hyperbole to get a point across. All people are saying is do not talk to the police, because exaggerating your story can be used as evidence against you.

Years ago, when I was in my 20s, I got pulled over on my way to meet some friends out. I wasn't speeding. I hadn't been drinking. The cop tried to get me to admit to being on Green Acres Road in Metairie. I hadn't been anywhere near Green Acres Road that night.

I must have fit the description of someone they were looking for. The cop kept on trying to trick me. "You just said you were on Green Acres."

"No sir, I didn't say that. I clearly stated that I have not been anywhere near Green Acres tonight."

"Well, that's not what you just said. Are you saying that you were on Green Acres?"

I finally wised up to what he was doing, and I told him I was not going to answer any more questions without an attorney.

I don't know who he was looking for, or why, but he was certainly trying to trick me into confessing something.

If police are asking you questions that require you to say "lawyer" and nothing else, you've made some really stupid decision in your life, and you're likely a worthless sack of trash to society.

So wearing the wrong color tshirt and fitting the description makes you a piece of trash?

I also don't need to watch a video on how to act around cops when they question me about criminal offenses I may or may not have committed, b/c i'm not a criminal, nor do i put myself in situations where criminal activity may be present.

The video was made for people with your mindset.

I don't fit the description of criminals. i fit the description of guy that goes to work with a real job, and a dad.
"sir, we spotted a guy wearing normal shorts and not an affliction shirt/wife beater/hoodie, robbing the Target while checking out the milfs with his 7 and 5 year old, fleeing the scene in a Toyota Highlander after safely securing his children in their car seats, and you fit that description, and we have some questions for you"

Where am i going to fit the description of a criminal? at the grocery store? at the soccer fields? at the baseball park? at work? at the gas station where there are cameras everywhere? at my house?

I've never been arrested, I've never been questioned by cops, I am as straight laced as they come and have never even gotten a speeding ticket.

With that said you can bet your arse that if I am ever brought in for questioning for anything the only thing I'm saying is what my best friend, who was a detective with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, said you should say in any situation such at that. "Lawyer." No matter what they ask. "Would you like something to drink?" "Lawyer." "What color is the sky?" "Lawyer." It does not matter.

You're dumber than dirt if you willingly talk to a cop without a lawyer present.

Pretty much my dad. He has never even smoked a cigarette. All his friends make fun of how straight laced he is. Goes to church every day.

Back in 1978 he was arrested for about 10 felonies related to gun running, exporting guns to forbidden country etc..., long story but he had no part of it(guns, trafficking, etc..) and was eventually cleared of everything. Just because you dont commit crimes, doesnt mean you wont have to deal with a police officer in an investigation

There's got to be a good back story to this. I'm guessing he wasn't just sitting at home or walking/driving down the street minding his own business and was arrested for running guns

Eta: not implying your dad did anything wrong, just sounds like it would be an interesting story

Depends, once got pulled over in Denver leaving a bar. I was borderline close to the limit(probably not but still). Cop knew I left the bar and could have pursued that but luckily for me, I had yet to get a Colorado drivers license. He thought I had a suspended license but I was very cordial when he asked me that even though he was highly accusatory. He looked me up and saw my Alabama license was valid and let me go after a stern talk about neglecting to get a new license. Had I played hardball, it would have pissed him off and he would have gave me a breathalyzer which could have been iffy.

Best just to evaluate the situation and proceed accordingly when dealing with cops. There are absolutely times you shouldnt say anything and some times you should

What the hell does this even mean?

What do people who commit sex crimes look like? What about the guy in the suburban neighborhood who just shot his estranged wife? What about white collar criminals?

Not every person who commits a crime looks like the dregs of society. How sheltered are you?

took 5 guys to airport as a favor for someone. He had a van. The were mob guys from Boston area trying to ship guns to Africa. Back when people had full autos here. There were also hand grenades being moved as well. My dad didn’t know who they were. He was arrested by the fbi and held for a few days before being released.

It amazes me how some of you can even have jobs with your lack of intelligence. Police departments are to protect society as a whole. If you are law abiding why would you not answer any questions they may ask?

They make mistakes just like all of us. Not cooperating with their investigations just makes their jobs harder, which leads to more mistakes.

Was stopped 6 times in a week and a half because my truck is the same color as the one owned by a guy they were looking for due to skipping a court date.

Not once did they run my plates before pulling me over or following me into my driveway.

frick em. Not a fan of Barney Fife.

ETA- One told he me he could have either tackled or shot me, in my driveway, for getting out of my vehicle. He hadn't turned on his lights until I was already parked.

frick him.

Conservative as hell, but I do not like the tactics cops use today versus 20 years ago.

You just answered your own question.

Their mistakes can lead to your incarceration. “Oops my bad” doesn’t get you your freedom back.
