If youre my neighbor, I am sorry! I tried to do the right thing and turn off the sprinklers but I couldn't figure out how to do it so I said screw it and let them rip !!

That amount is unnecessary. a lot of crops like strawberries get a fine mist sprayed on them during freezes. When the water freezes it releases a small bit of energy and since ice can't be colder than 32 degrees it prevents the plant from getting below that temp.

My next door neighbors valve on his system has to be replaced every year and his is off when cold.
It's only like $60 but still.....

Sorry I didn't phrase that correctly. It will continue to drop once all the water is frozen but until that time it can't be below 32 degrees. If you're constantly spraying a layer of mist, it will never all be frozen and thus won't go below 32.

We did that when I was at Southeastern....
The Infirmary field was behind the old Livingston Hall dorm, which I lived in. The main valve for the sprinklers was right under an overhang on the dorm..
I convinced my roommate to open the valve during a hard freeze night in January '84, it was awesome, looked like a winter wonderland...

One of the apartment complexes off of Royal Ln (Las Colinas) left theirs on and the right lane for about a block was an ice rink.
