Neighborhood hit by a violent tornado a few hours ago

We live in London, KY. I had been monitoring the severe weather out to the west, including a long tracked supercell storm that had spawned multiple warnings along its track from Missouri.
The radar was showing a very defined hook and the weather guys mentioned a debris ball signature. At this point the storm was maybe 20 minutes due west.
We don’t have a basement or shelter, so I told my wife, we’re getting the dog and driving 15 mi south to get out of the path. Wife thought I was overreacting. I 100% knew to get out.
While parked in the neighboring town, got word that the tornado had went through our subdivision. All roads are blocked our deputy sheriff son got back to the house and said we have some damage, debris blown through master bedroom window. Tree limbs in the siding and some roof damage.
The other side of the subdivision is gone. Son said up to 7 fatal, multiple injuries. My heart is broken for those who lost everything. We’re safe at her brothers house , but I can’t sleep. Just an awful night.

No doubt. I’ve rode a lot of tornado warnings out in my 53 years. Something told me to get the hell out, and I listened

Tornadoes are my biggest fear, absolutely hate the frickers. Losing a house would suck, dying in one would be even worse. Just awful all the way around. Glad you made it out safe.

Glad you’re safe. Saying a prayer for you and your community.

Well for the rest of your lives together you have the perfect comeback when she says this in the future

I’ve always said if you have time to get in your car then do so. They tell you to take cover which may not work unless you have a basement. Especially when a strong one is on the ground

Glad you are safe. Violent storms here

I’m currently visiting family in Ohio. Last night I sat on the porch and watched a lightning show across the river into Kentucky. Tornado sirens went off in town but I never saw anything on the radar where I’m at. Crazy stuff and glad you all are safe.

Just awful advice lol. Sure if you have significant time do it but hearing sirens or news reporting a touch down ain’t it

Congratulations on listening to your gut. Sometimes you just have a feeling and you need to act on it.

It’s all a question of the situation.
If you see the type of tornado she’s describing (hook on radar, confirmed on ground) 10-15 mins away headed towards your location I agree you should go if your house isn’t brick or doesn’t have a storm shelter. I’ve seen too many houses in Dixie alley wiped out to the ground level to say otherwise.
But if the storm is two minutes away, your house has a storm shelter or you aren’t sure where it is it’s probably more dangerous to try to leave.

Glad you’re ok, the damage being reported is crazy out of London.
