Absolutely true. However, him lying about it when initially confronted leads me to believe it wasn't a scenario where if he doesn't shoot then his dog and kid might be attacked.

We don't really know what happened when OP and his gf went to the neighbor. If they acted anything like some of the animal lovers in this thread suggested they would toward someone who shot their dog maybe he thought it would be better to lie about shooting the dog.

A lot of people don't like other people to know that they own or how many guns they own

Just a thought

Though I don't think lying about it is right, we don't have the entire context of the conversation

I'm sorry you cannot comprehend how easy it is to walk inside and use the telephone. What is truly pathetic is that in the event of a fight you find it acceptable to shoot someone. There is a major difference between bruised ribs and death. Men used to understand these things.

Ok great. That doesn't change that it would make zero sense to flat out lie that you shot the dog still struggling to live in your yard if the damn thing was just threatening your child.

I just don't see a person lying about that. It would make more sense for him to get pissed at OP and his GF for letting it get out than to try to pretend he didn't shoot the dog or own a gun.

He probably didn't want some lunatic to beat his arse for protecting his family.

I've never been in a fight outside of a boxing ring because I'm smart enough to realize there are people like you. But then again I've never been put in a situation like this.

So this guy:

Had time to go inside and get a gun then come out and shoot a dog.

Then lied about it.

Then said he was protecting kid.

Someone just wanted to shoot something.

That explains why you think the way you do and I'm not being a dick. In regulated fights, there are rules. Plus, there's usually a referee.
In the street, when some numbnuts starts beating on me, how do I know he's gonna stop if I'm down? I'm not willing to rely on his training or sympathy.
I concur with LD and would react appropriately.

You're right, though. Best to avoid the situation in the first place.

Could she win in court against this guy?

I don't see how. Her dog was in the neighbors yard, and wasn't on a leash. It sucks, especially if it was good dog. How did the dog get out?

Too many people in the world don't understand that. It's one thing if you go around shooting dogs for fun, but if a dog is in your yard and your kids are around with it growling...as a dog owner and if it was my dog I would be upset, but I would be understanding at the same time.

I love both my dogs, but I understand a kid's life is a lot more important than a dog.

Is this what your neighbor would see after barging through your door?
