You added this part.
Based on his response to her, he was just as emotional after the LSU game as she was after the book. She teared up, he snapped at her.
Is OP also a woman?

Apologize. And then apologize again. Then buy her something.

That of course did not go over well and ended with me sleeping on the couch yet again. Two days later she's still pissed at me and I'm not sure what I should say/do now.

Very few times have me and my wife gone to bed mad. And not in a very long time. We've stayed up REALLY REALLY late, though.

Well, the other day, my gf was reading the end of Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and she started to get all emotional (you know how women are) and started crying.
Subtle brag about having a literate girlfriend.

Hope you mean you're choosing to sleep on the couch to avoid her. Still don't know how a man gets put out of his own bed.

Dump her, if you have to sleep on the couch it's never going to last.

Try not being an insensitive asswipe, for starters. It's 101 shite to never invalidate your SO's feelings, no matter how unjustified you think they may be. Then try not letting a meaningless sporting event affect how you treat your SO. If either of these really have to be explained to you then you need a lot more help than I can give you, so good luck.

my only advice, which i'm sure you'll find not very helpful is, that absolutely sucks that you slept on the couch

I told her that she needed to get a grip
Why are so many itt acting like this is telling his girlfriend she is getting fat?
Get a grip is a benign phrase. I would hate to be with a women with which I had to tip toe around my own damn house.

If she's still mad after two days, that gives you an idea of what disagreements in the future will be like. Think about it.

1. Stop being a pussy.
2. If you feel you did something wrong, apologize and try to make up for it with flowers or dining out or whatever.
3. I can't stress this enough: NEVER SLEEP ON THE COUCH OR ANOTHER ROOM AGAIN. If she doesn't want to sleep in the bed? Fine. She can sleep somewhere else.
I assume you're not gay(NTTAWWT), so you're going to have to be the man in this relationship. Own it or move on.

Anytime my girl starts bitching I cut her off and say "aww poor baby, your life is so hard"
Sometimes it goes over well and she'll laugh. Other times she gets pissed. I don't really care. I'm not with her to hear her bitch about unimportant things. And she's not with me because I was a guy who will listen to her needlessly complaining.

Honestly that was kind of dickish especially if you were being an asshat after an LSU loss of all things. First have you apologized yet? If you love her do that immediately. Women tend to be more emotional and the last thing you need to ever do is chastise them for it. Especially if you ever want some poon ever again. More times than not women want you to just listen and empathize. Not try and fix their problems. Took me 20 years of marriage to figure this out. You should seriously store this bit of advice away for future relationships. Trust me it will save you from massive amounts of drama.

1. "Lets talk about this and put it behind us"
2. Let her blah blah blah. Youre insensitive, etc. You listen
3. DO NOT defend, explain, excuse, or rationalize your comment and behavior. No "I said that because..."
4. "I shouldnt have said that." Smile and give her a big hug. Keep positive until she smiles, then you know you're out of the woods. Don't leave at this point, stay with her in the room or whatever for a while and talk to her about something else.
Next time don't let it linger so long. Don't be afraid of her emotions, she sees that as weak and unattractive. She wants you to be strong emotionally and able to navigate her emotions calmly and positively.

Apologize. Is it really that hard?
Posted on 3/21/18 at 1:26 pm to lsudave1
Make her sleep on the couch for being insensitive about your emotions over the LSU loss

Starting to look like it. Bordering on being a little bitch, regardless of gender assigned (by God) at birth, anyway.
