I know my uncle got 2 quotes for his 5 ton, and those were 9.5k and 10.2k.

My cousins husband had his 3.5 ton replaced and cost around 7k.

So I’m gonna guess around 5k-6k for yours.

Accutemp quoted me like $8k for this sort of job last September. Lord knows what it’d be now.

I found someone not selling units to repair it for $2k.

I knew someone and 1.5 years ago changed everything. It was 8k… that’s a deal.

Arm and a leg if you want 13 SEER.

16 SEER first born and what ever else you got in the bank.

How long ago? That's half the price I was recently quoted.

Earlier this year.

Crazy thing is, my cousins daughter lives not too far from her mom and their ac unit went out at the same time. They are thinking lightning hit and fried both units.

Totally depends on the efficiency that you want and the difficulty of installation.

I got 5 bids, ranging from $5300 to $9500. The more expensive they were, the louder they brayed aboot how great their customer service is. For $5300, I got a Trane with a different name. They are manufactured at the Trane facility, with Trane parts. the only difference is that the hoses and electric go in the opposite side, so they just turn the unit around.

The new thermostat actually is a Trane.

Buy the unit and do it yourself. It's not that hard really. They come precharged and soldering in the copper is easy. Just go to a local supplier and get a new plenum and whatever collar adapters you will need for the ductwork.

I have done several in flips and rehabs. Just did one 3 months ago.

If you need to charge it then getting an EPA license to handle coolant in LA is pretty easy. IIRC it's a $100 fee and open book test you can take at Coburn's.

We got a new 4 ton Rheem about a year and a half ago for 7k. New blower with a gas furnace as well. If it was just an AC swap it would have been less but we went from a 3.5 ton to the 4 ton and it needed a larger furnace and blower. We had a small addition we were adding to the duct work so needed a slightly larger unit than we had.

Get at least 5 quotes. Buying an AC is not an off the shelf item. I replaced a 3 ton and was quoted:
$6,500
$8,000
$10,500
$12,000
$17,000

I have this 3 ton Rudd available. Manf date of 3/2018. Only ran for 15 months as I had it on my rental house and a tree demolished the house 15 months later. I have it stored in climate controlled building at my home. Had freon removed by Montgomery heat and air and is currently just being stored. Make any reasonable offer if interested.

I just replaced one of my 5 ton units. Variable speed Trane, cost about $20k.

I ain’t worried about the cost. This is the OT, after all.
