So, my fiancé (no pics) suggested to me the other day that I get life insurance due to my current job. I have a friend who sells insurance and offered me 30 year term at $26/month for a $100K policy.

I am 30 years old, non smoker and in good shape. Is this a good deal? What do the rest of you pay for life insurance?

Or does she just wanna get paid?

i pay around $80 a month for over 1 million

you can do MUCH better than $26 per month for $100,000

ETA:

im 31, not in great shape (but according to their tests i am), not a tobacco user

but yea, im more curious why your fiance cares

You're getting killed on that policy. Wife and I combined have more than 8x that and are only paying $32/mo

My advice at minimum would be to take out what would be needed to clear all debts, and fund kids (even if non-existent) school.

No that's not a good deal in my opinion. I am 28, got 500K 25 term for $31/mo.

Yeah, just saw that. Likely explains the higher premium. But I'd still shop around...could still do better, IMO.

Did he factor this in?

If not, that premium is too high.

I would set it at 10 years salary.

I am not sure if he factored it in. I thought it was a bit high, myself. But the woman is all "we need to get life insurance, yada yada."

You're curious why a man's future spouse might be concerned about life insurance and how she might support herself and their future family in the event of his untimely death? The OT is really funny some times.

Who does he work for?

He must be either new or shady to do a 100k policy.
That doesn't cover anything.

And, at that rate, let's hope he factored in your career.

I mean I'm more likely to die in a car wreck than he is in a plane right?

Well yea, but you're also less likely to die in a plane accident then him. I always see them tack on an extra fee for pilots. They also do it for hazardous sports and activities.

For a major air carrier yes, for general aviation (single engine planes, air charter operations, crop dusting) the odds are not as good. You usually get stiffed on individually purchased life insurance for being any type of pilot, being a diver etc.

You should shop around. I'm not sure of the current rates, but that sounds a little high to me.

Btw, I would not make my fiancé the beneficiary of the policy until we were married - but, that's your decision, of course.

Ok that does sound fricked up when I read it again.

Why I meant was this:

Why does she care for him to get one now, specifically, because thy changes how much coverage he should get.

They probably don't have kids

So I'm wondering if they already have a house together and some bills that she would be left with if he passed away before they were married. I completely agree with the decision to get life insurance. My comment was meant to be geared more towards the amount that he would need because $100,000 is more than just funeral costs obviously, but isn't nearly enough for childcare costs down the line so he would obviously have to increase his coverage, etc...

I just got lazy and didn't fee like typing it all out
