I'm a Nissan fan boy when it comes to trucks. Have a first-gen Titan, and that thing is a tank.
BiL had a Taco, and when comparing that to a Frontier, the Frontier was a better vehicle. Tacos hold their value better, but a Frontier is a solid 1B option. Smoother ride, bigger engine, better off road package.

I’m shocked there are so many people driving tiny trucks. Maybe I just don’t pay enough attention.

Have rented both. To me the suspension of the Frontier seems spongy but otherwise comfortable and a decent size truck. The Tacoma suspension was tighter but a smaller cab. The Tacoma seemed like it would last longer.

I have to assume the Toyota is the Android.

I’ve seen cargo ships with a tighter turning radius than Nissan trucks

I am an auto dealer. There hasn't been anything in the last 40 years that holds value like a Tacoma.

Drove a Tacoma 247,000 trouble free miles other than couple of front hubs and routine u joints and carrier bearing.
Would I buy another new one???
Not now, no V6 screw Toyota and their 4 cylinders. Apparently a lot of other guys feel the same way.
By default, would buy the V6 Frontier

Had both...like the frontier more. Can't speak about the newer 4cyl option but the v6 was very solid. Gas mileage did suck with the v6 frontier. I was getting like 16 mpg.
Honestly wish nissan would have stayed a compact truck. Them making it larger midsized ruined a lot that I liked about it.
Driving a 1st generation frontier now. Make fun if you want. It's small and super reliable. I get over 30mpg with the manual trans and that's without all the turbo issues of newer trucks. Just a solid little bastard

The 2024 Tacoma is using a new platform with a small engine and turbo. I know Toyota is legendary for their reliability, but 2024 has not been a good year for the Tundras. I know the Tacoma is a different beast, but it's basically a new model year and has seen significant changes. I would wait a year before buying a Tacoma.
The Frontier on the other hand is still (since 2020) using a V6 direct injection engine with a regular 9 speed automatic transmission.
I hate to say it, but if you need a new truck - the Frontier is probably the more proven option between the two.

This is what I drive currently:
2018 4 Runner (basically a Taco SUV and drive about same).
excellent turning radius, shitty fuel consumption, less power than Frontier.
Slightly nicer interior, 4wd and excellent off rode on trail or beach, smooth ride even with 20in K02's. Pleasure to drive.
2023 Frontier, V6 310hp (highest of any midsize truck), excellent towing capacity, shitty turning radius with 6ft bed but very easy to adapt. Poor fuel consumption, smooth ride on K02's, drives very heavy and tight so excellent for highway driving, interior nice with new style updates. Pleasure to drive.
I really like both of these trucks for different reasons and drive both equally. The 4 Runner is excellent for tight city driving and parking but also good off road. The Frontier is excellent for towing and more long distance travel as well as any off road activity. The new motor and trany have been excellent.
Just depends on what your needs are but I highly recommend both of these vehicles.

Tacoma by far. Have had my '08 since it was brand new and never a single problem. I also do all of my maintenan.

I have a '22 Pro4x Frontier. I put a 2inch lift on it and Nitto Recon 33's. I love it. That being said I've never had a Taco so I have nothing to compare but I can't image liking anything more than my Frontier.
When I bought in '22 the Nissan looked more rugged and it was a V6...thats what initially sold me.

People have had issues with the new Tacoma too. I'd never buy a first year of a new model, even from Toyota.

Just bought a 23 tacoma with 12k miles to stay away from the 4cyl turbo. Love it. Can't help you with the nissan.

I've got a 2022 Tacoma. I like it a lot, and the gripes about the transmission are overstated but you can feel it sometimes hunting for gears.
that being said, the new Tacomas are complete reworks. I'm not a fan of a turbo 4 in any circumstance, as it creates higher compressions and more opportunity for failures. ANY new vehicle should be looked at as an experiment in finding errors, and Toyota isn't immune to it. Consider all of those Tundras that are about to get new engines.
The Frontier should be just fine. My wife had one way back when and it was a fine truck w/no frills. Resale won't be there. Longevity vs. the previous Tacoma generations isn't there either. But there's no data against the new Tacos.
I personally don't like the styling of the new Tacoma.
