Check with the auto parts store, many of them have loaner tools.

I've never owned an inch pounds torque wrench, and you don't need one now. If you are going to redo it, take the old cover and a nut and washer, and see for yourself how much torque it takes to compress the gasket just slightly. Once you get the feel, you'll never forget it.

Gosh ya'll really?

The rubber one is reusable the cork is not.

If you had solid lifters, you would know the answer.

Oh wait, what are solid lifters?

I haven't seen a solid lifter cam motor in 20 years or more.

I reuse cork gaskets on my 69 VW. Use sealant on the valve cover side of the cork gasket and no sealant on the head side. Take the valve covers off to adjust valves and put them back on with same cork gasket.

Dont change anything unless you find a leak. Chances are your fine, any tightening over a good "snug" is usually a bit much but doesn't necessarily mean catastrophe. If you notice a leak, I would try tighten a quarter or bit more over leak and re-evaluate.

Besides the hard part is done; you took the old cover off already

Yeah. I don't have a torque wrench. I was wondering about that.

You'd probably be glad to use one if you had one.
