My nephew is 10 years old, and is just starting to want to play baseball. I played a little in college so I am super excited to see him want to play...and I want to help him a little. Obviously 10 years old is a little late in the game, so we got some work to do for him to learn the basics rather quickly.
I want to buy him a bat and teach him how to hit and all. My question is, what size bat (length and weight) is good for a 10 year old? Also, is there a place to buy used bats? I don't want to buy a brand new expensive bat until I know he really want to dive into playing.

Thanks in advance!!

How big is the kid?

Just guessing I would say 29 inches in length. and -10 to -12 in weight (19 ounces to 17 ounces for 29 inch length.)

Depends on how big and strong he is. Could be anywhere from a -5 to a -12. Also depends on league he's playing in. Some are mandatory 2 1/4" and some allow 2 5/8 or 2 3/4.

He's 10 and never played baseball?

Buy him a -10 28/18. Do not go out a spend $300 on a bat either.

Yea, I played in 2001... Which means I was 10 in 92. I feel like a lot has changed since 92 in little league peeps.

Ok, thanks. He is a bigger kid for 10 years old. Pretty strong as well. That is why I asked. I will look into a cheap bat with these recommendations.

There will be so many things he is learning at one time that you may need to try one of these:

SKLZ Pop Back Youth Batting Tee

$14.99

You do not want him to get frustrated and give up.

Many critical bat rule changes for leagues starting end of year. Bats have to have an approved stamp, bat bought today might be worthless for games

Yea, but that's not the norm...we just want to give him every opportunity to have fun, but learn the fundamentals as well.

Facebook always has pages with people selling bats.. At 10.. it depends on size and strength of the kid but probably a 27/28 drop ten.

You played in college and he hasn't played until now? frick dude glad you weren't my uncle? There is a great chance he is transgendered so I'm thinking he could wreck girls softball. So he has that going for him.
