Herniated disc at C6/7 is compressing the spinal cord. Either gonna be disc replacement or fusion of neck vertebrae.

Who have you heard is good and where would you go?

If you had either procedure, what was recovery like? How long till you went back to the office? Played golf, etc?

Artificial disc was a bit longer recovery, probably 7-10 days? Mostly laying down, sucking down smoothies, et al....

No pain, no discomfort.....unless I moved around. Drugs helped relax me the first 2 days. By the third day, I was taking 1/2 pills, never even finished out the scrip
of Soma. Stayed on the Hydrocodone about a week as needed, mostly to sleep at night

After my fusion, I was barely down for 2 days. By day 3 I was 60-70% Didnt really take much in prescriptions post-op, my medical MJ edibles worked waaaaaaay better

Artdisc - 10 days? But when I was "back" - I was back at nearly 90%

Fusion - I went back within 5 days, but I was sore and in discomfort for weeks, but easily manageable

My advice, whenever you return to work, no matter how good you feel. After about 4 hours, your neck will be just about done supporting your head upright. While I was at about 80-90% back overall, I could only maintain for about 1/2 a day. I couldnt put in a full day for at least 2 weeks.

Return to exercise was predictably slow. It took me a good year to get back to where I was pre-surgery, and there is just a range of motion you'll never get back.

I dont ever notice it, unless I'm on an onramp trying to merge into traffic. Cant quite turn my head that far

Thanks. No real pain associated with it. Just the specter of falling and being paralyzed for the rest of
My life. No tricep function tho. That’s a bit of a problem.

Just had my C7 removed by a neurosurgeon in Houston named Peter Yeh. Wasn’t too bad. Was back on my feet after a few days, I’m one month out and almost back to normal. Throat was sore a couple days.

Only bummer about Yeh was he wouldn’t give me anything better than fricking Tylenol 3. Like come on, give the good stuff. Not like I’m faking a surgery just to get meds.

Charles Bowie did my back in 2014, he is at the same practice as Oberlander. Oberlander was very short and kind of rude. Explained he was backed up for months but I could see someone else. Went to Bowie who explained the process and provided surgery a couple days later was great answering questions and follow up.

This guy fixed it.
