You don’t seem fine. I mean, with all the sky screaming and all. But I’m certainly pulling for you.

The national debt increased almost 9 trillion under Obama. Over eight years.

The national debt increased almost 8 trillion under Trump. Over four years.

And you dumbasses think Trump is going to actually reduce the national debt this go around??

How long do you plan on being alive? You might see it slow, but I doubt it runs backward (that could be inflationary, in fact).

Unless Elon guts the DOD, social security, and medicare/medicaid, that's not happening without significant tax increases. USAID was l% or less of the budget and half the things they did will still be done by the state department. There's money to he saved by eliminating the DOE, but it was created by Congress and, legally, only Congress can do that and I don't see it happening. Likewise, no one in Congress wants to run for reelection wearing the fact that they cut social security and medicare or free school lunches for poor kids - old people broke and dying and hungry kids aren't great looks on a campaign promo, but there's room for future reductions for those who aren't already receiving benefits.

Even if we could get rid of Medicaid, those people would still get treatment at the hospital and they'd figure out another way to pass the cost on to us.

I want to see the behemoth reigned in too, but it's not as simple as it seems.

Now you are adding back in Covid. Before Covid, Trump actually reduced the debt, it was still way too damn high, but he was reducing the debt and reducing the % increase of the deficit.

Because of decades of taxpayer abise, it's going to take these four years and the next eight to see it moving the right direction.

The rate of increase under Trump 1 (pre-Covid) mirrored the same under Obama. JoJo was OOC.

Now do %....did Trump continue at the same percentage of existing debt? So his % of deficit was less before covid

If the size of the total sum gets larger the percentage would go down even he maintained the same levels of deficit additions.

A big chunk of some of this also has to do with fed rates, which increased significantly under Biden because of inflation and added to both the cost of current borrowing and to servicing the existing debt. I don't say that to excuse JoJo's profligate spending habits, just to say this is a complex problem and that both parties are culpable for the problem.

Also worthy of note that one of the Treasury's ways of combating inflation is to sell T-bills to pull money out of circulation. Not sure how much of that accounts for the increase under JoJo, but it's also a factor in those numbers.

Trump never reduced the debt. He added to it every year, even before Covid

I’ve been exclusively discussing the national debt. I’ve never mentioned the deficit. It’s other posters who are interchanging the terms. Dumbass

Trump loves to spend. He spent almost 8 trillion in fours years. Obama never spent anywhere close to that.

Because hes a "grow the economy" at all costs guy.

As long as the indicators prop him up, he will continue to wrecklessly spend, and all those "bills no one reads" will continue to get passed.
