Natchez, Mississippi

I get alerts on old Victorian style homes for sale and this beautiful house appeared today. It was on the market in 2010 for $855k and is now only $350k. Anyone know why real estate would plummet so much there? Anyone have thoughts about visiting or living there? Is there a lot of crime? Restaurants? Golf courses?
I could have posted on money board or travel board but this seems to fit here.

Never quite understood why Natchez doesn’t market themselves as more than just a quaint B&B small town. To me the town has potential to be more than just a quick weekend getaway to a bed and breakfast. Maybe the lack of interstate access hurts its growth?

Honest answer, go look at their mayor. People are deathly afraid of him destroying that city

How much land was offered in the first posting compared to now?
Maybe they separated the house sale from the land.

The population of Natchez has decreased from 23000 to 15000 in recent years, from what I was told.

I live in Natchez and have never ever heard someone say they are deathly afraid of the mayor. The garden society ruins this city way more than the mayor.

Natchez went from a town of 20000 60/40 white to 15000 60/40 black.
Its racist but yeah that is gonna hurt property values.

It was on the market, doesn't mean it sold. It was probably grossly overpriced for the market in 2010.

Natchez has lost most of it's industrial base over the last 20 years.
As a result, It has been mostly a retirement community for a while. When those people have died, there hasn't been much demand for the housing. There simply is not much opportunity there for jobs

I know this couple who live/work in Cali and they keep a house in Natchez and in Florida. They seem to like Natchez quite a bit. They do complain about the garden society nazis.

Do you have an idea of the upkeep cost and utilities of this house? Painting that house would probably cost $30k and windows/doors would leak terribly.
The garden society is a HOA on steroids.
