We get it. You are a proud Texan.

Keep your arse in Texas. You know nothing about Louisiana.

This is just stupid and disenginous, there are tons of cool local places, high end restaurants, breweries, etc. Again, I'm not telling you NOLA isn't unique, it is. But to argue Dallas is just a bunch of olive gardens and Applebee's is stupid

Of course there is. Mangia is a local pizza place in Austin and I've eaten at every pizza place in New Orleans and that is easily the best pizza I've ever had. But in general, most cities in America are full of strip malls, suburbs and chain stores. It's why people visit places like New Orleans, Paris, NYC, Singapore and fly over Omaha, Des Moines, St Louis.

I've lived in Texas for 5 years.

I'm from Louisiana and spent about 26 years there.

Exactly! But you don't have to go all the way to Texas to do that. Like I said, you can have your cake and eat it too but you can have it from an hour or two away and not have to spend the money to fly.

You've directly compared it to Dave and Buster's and olive garden several times. I'm referring to your exact words.

In general, that's the impression places like Dallas give. The city is a developer's paradise. A much larger percentage of its footprint is made up of tract housing, strip malls and retail chains than a city like New Orleans or San Francisco. Is that even really up for debate?

Yeah man, uptown, state Thomas, deep ellum, lower Greenville, bishop arts, trinity groves, all cookie cutter as can be.

HG Supply, Happiest Hour, Pecan Lodge, Deep Ellum brewing, none are more than an Olive Garden

What does that mean?

Let me clarify.

Despite the fact that I've eaten in just about every pizza place there is in New Orleans, this little place in Austin Texas, Mangia, was still the best pizza I've ever had.

I was conceding your point that there are places in Texas that are good locally owned places. My wife was in love with Rudy's.

But my point still stands that those places are few and far between when compared to cities and towns in Louisiana.

Come on, man. We both know that the tri-state area of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are black holes when it comes to national chains. Especially Louisiana and Mississippi. This is actually a blessing in disguise as it allowed the groundwork and foothold to be established for unique, endemic, high quality locally owned businesses to succeed and remain.

You sound very defensive. Like I said, I have a ton of family in DFW and I specifically mentioned Deep Ellum but to suggest that any of those places approach anything like any of the neighborhoods in New Orleans it's quite a stretch.

Like I said, every city has its spots. In Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, anywhere, you can have a little bit of cool to go with your stacks of Benjamins. In New Orleans you get a huge stack of cool with a little bit of Benjamins.

Different Strokes for different folks

That has more to do with when much of New Orleans was built and being built along a bend....and it does suck balls. And we cannot even use traditional directions.

Although Dallas has a lot of traffic it's streets were planned better like New Orleans. They understood the value of boulevards. Houston and Austin's traffic can suck a dick.

Yeah that's gonna be the death of me. I've got so many north south streets I can use to avoid 75 or DNT if traffic is awful.

There's quite a difference between this and saying that it's only that. And again, this is more the suburbs than Dallas proper. Inside of say loop 12, there's a lot of similarities with uptown/Lgd. Shops and restaurants intertwined with residences. Knox Henderson, lower and lowest Greenville, and bishop arts all have a similar layout. Obviously a different style, but far from cookie cutter and chain strip malls.

No one said that.

No you said Dallas is a bunch of Dave and Buster's and Olive Gardens, about half a dozen times.
