You think Nashville lacks identity?
What is their identity? Nashville hot chicken?
If you say country music I’ll laugh in your face

Atlanta
Atlanta may have once had an sense of place. But that was probably before my time. It's pretty darn generic to me.
People are going to say Houston, but I think Houston is forever associated with Oil and NASA. It's lack of traditional zoning has made it rather unique. It's pretty recognizable as Houston visually, the food is pretty awesome, and the people are the nicest you will encounter in any large city.
I'd argue that Atlanta is more bland than Houston.

To be fair, the entire state is smaller than many cities.

Oklahoma City and Indy are perfectly nice towns. I've spent time in both and appreciate them. But they are bland and don't really have an identity.
so have you spent any time in the other 3 cities?

Denver, Minneapolis, Indy, Cleveland, Albuquerque. I like all but they are pretty low on "identity" as defined by you.

OP:
Let’s set the benchmark at 1 million metro population
You:
All cities which don't meet criteria.
You're most likely a person who has never left BR.

Atlanta
I loved it all through the 90’s. The Olympics in 96 were awesome. It was around 2.5-3 million metro population back then. It’s way too big now and way too spread out. I liked it better when Marietta was the suburbs. Now it’s all the way to pretty much Chattanooga.

Atlanta was very close to being on my list, but they have a strong identity of being the saddest sports town in America

Your list is shite without Jacksonville.
Massive landmass that is endless chains and the most boring downtown that I’ve ever seen.
I went there for a wedding and spent 4 nights there. Didn’t make it to the beach, so i can’t comment on that. Food was pretty disappointing, there wasn’t much of a bar scene any where near downtown where the wedding party was staying.
It is probably a great place to grow up and raise kids

Jacksonville Beach or the city of Jacksonville? There’s a big difference between the two.
