The most important thing from it came from the reporter pleading after it ended. If there was an on-going public safety concern, and he said there was not one.

Yep. 55-60% of violent crime in this country is committed by like 3% of the population. But let's strip rights from the other 97% because we refuse to address or even admit what the problem is. There are other problems too but it would be a good place to start.
