N-95 mask is not permitted for asbestos remediation

No it won't stop the virus but it comes in handy for concealing your identity whilst you commit a litany of felonious acts.

My unit is Covid (+) patients only. Our unit along with the Critical Care units and one other floor that deals with rule-outs use N95 masks. The other floors are not supplied with N95.
The difference in the number of healthcare workers who test positive on non-N95 floors staggering. We’ve had I think 2 positives in 3 months or so, other floors have Had 20-30 positives among the staff per floor.

Anecdotal. If the mask cannot stop asbestos particles it cannot stop virus particles. Without knowing who and where people came in contact with covid leaves the anecdotal mask information you supply useless. People on non-covid + floors may have other variables affecting the numbers. They may have received the virus elsewhere outside the hospital. Your units are taking far more aggressive tactics that include strategies beyond the mask.

I tried explaining to my er doc neighbor that I could get her a respirator. She asked if it was as good as an N95.
I had to explain that we no longer carry N95 because they do not protect enough.

If I'm exposed to covid or asbestos, I'll take whatever mask I can get.

Congratulations to the 20-30 positives on those floors, they now are immune.

A very, very, very small percentage of those who have Covid 19 actually die and/or get that serious. I'm talking less than 5%. The vast majority of people who have it are asymptomatic and simply carry the virus.

Our COVID positive units at my hospital only have staff wear N-95s for aerosolizing treatments (bipap, svn, vents, high flow O2, etc). Otherwise staff wear a surgical mask, gown, gloves, and face shield or goggles.
None of them on the COVID units just wearing surgical masks caring for non aerosol generating patients have gotten COVID. I know.....I get the fun task of working up every positive staff member at the organization to make sure there was no additional exposure to staff/patients and work with employee health on any identified exposures.
It has nothing to do with the N-95....unless again aerosol generating treatments/procedures.
