OP, I know your pain.
Wife called me one time to tell me that her check engine light was on. I asked her if the car was running OK. She said "yeah it's running fine," so I told her I'd check it out when we got home that day.
Without telling me, she ends up taking it into the shop because the light was "freaking her out." The mechanic runs all sorts of diagnostics trying to figure out the problem.
Turns out that it was because she didn't screw her gas cap all the way back on.
Paid $250 for a new gas cap.

You cracked the case, baw. Tell your friends about it.

She didn’t listen, watched a video on YouTube about dishwasher maintenance that convinced her she could fix it, and now we’re going to Lowe’s to get a new dishwasher.
Still doesn't top my wife's mailbox incident, when she hit it and kept running over it because she "thought that would fix it". At least your wife researched proper ways to attempt a repair. My wife just said "frick it".

She ripped the bottom out to get to the drain and filters and in the process broke the mechanism that spins and forced water throughout the unit for cleaning.
I'd wrap the new dishwaher in gift wrap and tell her she is allowed to open her Christmas gift early...

She called me yesterday afternoon and said it wasn’t draining properly.
Did you figure out what the actual issue was? Was it just a clogged drain?

Power washing motor went out in ours, a 4 year old Whirlpool. I called a tech and told him what it was doing and he said for sure that's the problem. $225 for part, $90 to just come out, plus labor. I bought the part online for $180 with shipping. Gonna try to install it Saturday. Pulling the dishwasher out is gonna be a pain, was a nightmare to get it in the hole.

Now this is a good idea
Guess the vacuum cleaner will have to wait for her birthday.

We recently got a new Bosch dishwasher. I love it because it's 1000 times quieter than the one we replaces,
Same here, had it about 5 years and have had no problems. Got it at Lowe’s and I think it cost a little more than some others but it is so quite it is worth it to me.
LOL at your wife’s appliance repair story.

Turns out there were pop corn kernels clogging the drain.....
She denies putting them there, but last week she was wine drunk with her friends watching some show and I know for a fact they were eating pop corn.
I’m calling their husbands for partial payment of the new dishwasher.

Sounds like she did exactly what she set out to do.

Probably so. She’s been talking about new appliances lately.....
Now the brands don’t match because she’s getting a KitchenAid dishwasher. Let’s see how long before she’s talking about getting matching appliances.

My wife doesn’t even like loading the dishwasher, much less repairing it.
