Very difficult decision for you all and I'm sorry you had to go through that.
That being said, there are medical advancements now where babies with similar diagnosis can survive and have a high quality of life. And that is my intention of this post. You don't have to terminate HLHS or HRHSbabies.
My son was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. We were made aware of the complications between 19-21 weeks, cant quite remember. Doctors and pediatric cardiologist made us aware of the risks but also the possibilities. He was born in Baton Rouge at Woman's Hospital and was flown to Texas Children's within 7 days. Had his first open heart surgery around 10 days old (Glenn procedure) his second open heart at 3 months (Norwood procedure) and just has his 3rd last (Fontan procedure) summer at 4 years old. Right before his 3rd surgery, I'd have to pick him up about halfway walking around the block. Now he is playing soccer.

If someone wants to help out the foster care system, increase funding for the deserving poor babies that are born into unwanted and terrible situations, etc. Then we can talk about abortion, until then I support their right to terminate a pregnancy until a certain point or under certain circumstances.

You've been asked repeatedly to specifically ID what you're demanding in terms of safety nets/social spending in order to stop the barbarism of abortion, and you won't tell us.

Better foster care system funding/oversight, universal healthcare, free school lunches. Those are just a start. Do that and then we can discuss if abortion should be banned.

You already have all those things. Medicaid. Food stamps. Free school lunches. Government housing.
The answer is...more of that? It always is, right?

Bless his darlin heart, you can barely see his scar.
I hope the OP tries for another baby and is at peace.

We absolutely don’t have sufficient funding for the foster care system, nor universal healthcare, and free school lunches is being challenged all over the country. Wtf are you talking about?

My son was born in 2000 with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. He’s 21 years old and very happy we didn’t abort him. He’s my best friend and studying to be a radiologist.

This is a great story and an even better picture.

Jesus Christ...
I've only made it through 4 of the current 16 pages of this thread, but the amount of judgment and speculation in the replies is mind boggling. Thank goodness that there are some compassionate replies and have a modicum of sincere respect.
I wouldn't want to be in your shoes, then or now.
One of my brothers died of a heart defect at a very young age. I was only 4 or 5 years old and didn't completely understand what was going on, but it had an affect on my other brothers and myself. And not in a good way. It was a constant reminder as younger siblings were born. Would they live? Would they die? Who the frick knows? I was just a kid!
I wish you and your wife well. I'm sorry you were faced with this decision. It's been 55 years since Robert's short 31 day life, but don't let anyone try to underestimate the trauma of a sibling dieing.

People here are literally calling him a murderer, it’s abhorrent. The ideologues are thankfully the minority. This will be a huge net negative for them overall.

Funding for foster care - I'm in, provided it's done effectively and efficiently
There are zero children in the foster care system who can't get healthcare in the United States, so you'll have to be far more specific here
And you're out to lunch on free lunches, no idea what's going on with this talking point.

Have no fear, the people guided by their faith will make the best decisions for everyone. Just trust them.

Quit conflating religion and morality.

Yep, faith, aka the suspension of one’s logical faculties

I've never been faced with the choice - medical, financial, convenience, or otherwise - but I'm glad I haven't. I don't think I'd want to do it, but I can assure you that theoretical prospects don't always reflect actions in practical application.

Religious people don’t share that same sentiment

True, there will be way more need of better foster care, funding of WIC, EBT, etc. Now that all abortion will be illegal in half of the states.

Who will be the first to offer their wealth to fund these unfortunate families? We are waiting.

So we are pretending conservatives don’t donate to charities or adopt children? Quite the fantasy land you are living in.
