He is joining the Navy.
Scored a 94 on the ASVAB so he got picked up for nuclear engineering.
Perfect timing, he won't be at Great Lakes during the winter.

I have one shipping off in August (marines) and a daughter going to stay in dorms in October (med school). 2 to the gut in the same year.

I have 2 boys that are home for the summer from school & I try to spend as much time as I can with them. I know how you feel.
It's tough & it hits different with boys. For me it did.
As most kids, he'll be back & it'll be like you're holding him again for the first time, but he'll be a man & you'll be proud.
Like a vapor.
God bless your son.

Thought they banned Trans from serving.

FINALLY, someone around here with a smart kid.
Nope. The football team wouldn’t even let him major in plant science.

We had a going away party for my son this weekend it’s definitely starting to get real that I have less than two weeks with him still under my roof. He reports to the USNA on the 26th. The next time I see him he will be a changed man. Congratulations to your son for enlisting it takes courage and determination to decide to serve much less right out of high school. Nothing but respect for anyone that chooses to wear a uniform in support of this great nation.

I wish my kids would enlist. But those little frickers are in college sucking my bank account dry for tuition and rent.

Which branch? My son did army basic a while back and I was shocked how much I heard from him. They get their cell phones a fair amount in later phases, plus there is an online service taking pictures of them.
That was one of the things that surprised me, how much freedom they get now after their “turning green” ceremony. Back in my day, we’d get to go down to the corner on Sunday afternoons and use the pay phones to call home. Had to wait in line forever to make a 10 minute call. Totally worth it though.
My son’s basic training company had their own FB page. At first, they would post pics every other day it seemed. My wife and I would sit there studying every picture trying to pick out our son. Later on, they stopped posting as much though. However, when they did their rifle qualification, they posted a pic of my son because he was one of two in his company to score a perfect 40 out of 40.

That was a proud daddy moment for sure.

11 Bravo.
As an old tanker, I’m mortified I raised a grunt. As a father, I’m proud as hell.

Don’t think I didn’t give him hell over that one.

I like to think I helped him qualify expert. I started teaching him to shoot at an early age.

At this moment he’s in the field at Fort Polk, or whatever it’s called now. That place is hell to be in the field this time of year, just miserable. Been there, done that. I’d imagine he’d love a good cold beer about right now.

I bought my dad a "Navy Dad" t-shirt, he caught hell for wearing it, but he wore it with pride on Ft Lost in the woods.

LOL. Yeah, I imagine he caught serious hell over that, especially around the time of the Army v Navy game.

Yep. 11 Bang Bang would have been fun.
As a 19 Killer myself, I always liked the 11 Bang Bangs and the 13 Foxes.
