That's why you have insurance though. He needs to go ahead and get that process started. If the insurance company knows the vehicle has on star they may be able to push them to locate it. He doesn't need to be going vigilante mode to find his own car.

He has Allstate. He's just wondering if he can use Onstar to track his vehicle even if he doesn't have an active subscription. I think they can track it, but will they???
To answer your question, yes they can and will but they will only do it under certain conditions. They will need proof that a police report has been filed and insurance company has been notified.

I know he has communicated with Allstate and he has filed a police report. His apartment complex has had the gates open for the last 5 days. It's just a bad situation.

He's not trying to be a vigilante but if he can locate the vehicle he can alert to police.

He immediately filed a report and contacted his insurance. He also talked to Onstar but I don't believe the first person he talked to, who basically said too bad, is his last option. Im definitely going to tell him to either get to the supervisor or reactivate his sub, i really appreciate you guys that posted

I had my truck stolen from my driveway and onstar wouldn't tell us where it was until NOPD and the insurance company confirmed the truck was stolen. It only took about 30 min. We quickly located my truck about 2 miles from my house.

I will pass that on to my friend. Thank you for your posts!

Tell him about the storage unit you parked it in to eventually pawn it off.

this is exactly the way I would handle it...push the insurance company to deal with onstar...they are the ones that stand to lose the bucks if it is not found.

The privatized government in Sandy Springs is all about who you know. If your friend has money or corporate connections then he can definitely get them to track his car down.

Sandy Springs PD is pretty good.
Your friend lived in an apartment complex? Where?

Spalding Crossing, at peachtree dunwoody and Spalding dr. Usually it's impossible to get in and out unless you're a resident, but they've had the gate wide open the last week doing work.

Did he pay insurance? Then I don't see the problem.

Saw a story on the news where they recovered like 15 of these things in one garage that had been stolen over an 18 month span. They're popular to gut parts off of.

How did they steal it? Seriously, do they still hotwire cars like they used to on CHiPS? And take them to the chopshop?

OnStar but they said since his subscription expired they can't track it.
That is false, they can do it without a subscription. The police will have to call probably, but I have done it several times.
