My new generator is the difference between evacuating and hunkering down.

It has been a very long time since I evacuated, but I have done it many times. Not this time. If my roof gets ripped off, I guess I'm fricked.

Anyone else in this frame of mind now that you have a generator?

I’ve been on the verge of this for a while but it would also require transfer switch and Thats just a lot of work that I don’t know how to do.

It depends on where you are. Are you in a flood area? Do they have trees all around your house? Hurricanes themselves don’t typical scare me. The tornadoes that spin off hurricanes are what gives me the shits. Good luck with that electricity.

Yup. I’m staying put because of the generator but I’m stupid enough to stay without one also.

How many watts you generating? Bet mine’s bigger.

There is my obvious brag in your subtle-brag thread.

That’s me. I’m in beau Chene. No fear of flooding or even “hurricane” fear. But we have countless pine trees surrounding the house. The last storm last year dropped about a 10” thick branch that was 15’ long right next to the house. We were lucky. But if that or something bigger falls on the roof in the early stages, talk about. A miserable 8-10 hours. Guess that’s why I stocked up on bourbon today.

I’ve only ever evacuated for Katrina - which was good bc we got 12-15 feet and I was 36 weeks pregnant

So that was a good call

Lucky for you, there are individuals you can pay who have the knowledge and skill to knock this out of the park.

My buddy in NO paid for a whole home generator months ago.

Gets installed in 3 weeks.

He's not happy

Generator is nice, but transfer switch is next level. Of course whole house is the pinnacle but I don’t lose power that often to justify.

The only time I evacuated was for Gustov.. What a CF that was.. Took us 21 hours to make it to Birmingham. And yes I wanted to kill my GF at the time.
