Yeah. It's like the old saying: There are things you know. Things you know you don't know. And things you don't know you don't know".

Just have her check it out. Early detection can make a lot of difference in some conditions.

I had a heart to heart with one of my best friends about this very thing 2 night ago.

I think there's something wrong with my dad. He does the EXACT same thing with names of places, stores, people, you name it. He also falls asleep out of fricking nowhere and doesn't eat much at all anymore.

He's also hilarious and thinks really fast on his feet. He still "has it" sometimes but I can tell he's just off now. I have to explain things to him more and more and he really spaces out at times almost every time we talk.

I've told my mom about it but she doesn't seem to notice. I only see him once every 3 months of so and she's with him every single day. So I think I can sense this change better than she can.

Wish I could remember all the misnomers I hear from my mom and aunt, then I could write a funny screenplay and have Betty White play one of them. Mom called an ATM and "animated teller".

But keep alert to changes in her condition, OP. We took my mom to the ER five times before a psychiatrist diagnosed that she was sleep-disordered and suffering from delirium (like battle fatigue in soldiers).

To add to my first post, it seems like he doesn't have enough mental energy(is that a thing?) to stay locked in at times. I can usually tell before it happens, when he checks out, that is.

I'm no Alzheimer's expert, but my family is currently dealing with that horrible disease with my grandmother. I guess it can differ from case to case, but I would look for her repeating the same things, asking the same questions over and over again, things like that. It doesn't seem like just calling things by weird names itself is a sign of Alzheimer's, as those may just be the keywords she uses to remember those places, but if other symptoms like those I mentioned are showing up then you may consider having her see her doctor. Again, I am no expert, I just base this on my experience.

My dad does this ALL the time now. He'll call me about an Alabama commitment 2 or 3 times. "Hey did you see so and so committed?" Jesus Christ, dad. You've called me about this 3 times now.

He just got Shazam. He'll look on it and ask me to listen to a song that he's asked me to listen to multiple times already.

I'm definitely worried.

I would just keep an eye on that. Repeating questions or phrases probably doesn't necessarily mean Alzeimer's but it was one of the early symptoms for my grandmother.

If you can convince him to go to the doctor, which is very difficult to do with older people (especially if they have dementia or Alzeimer's), I would recommend that you go with him and then privately speak to his doctor about these instances/symptoms you mentioned. That is what my Aunt and Dad have to do for my grandmother so that the doctor will really know what is going on.

That's what I plan on talking to my mom about. He's the most caring/loving guy I've ever met in my entire life. So if we let him know that we're concerned, I think he'll be fine with going.

It seems to me that he knows something is off, and is embarrassed by it. I think it's why he sorta checks out and shuts people off now. I could easily be over thinking this, but better to be safe than sorry.

I appreciate the advice.
