Ouch. I never reach into my dog’s den, let them exit first. Other than dropping food/water bowls, I leave them alone. Hope you heal quickly, that doxie did a number on you.

Ours goes absolutely batshit crazy if you say the word bed. He knows that's his safe place and it's not to be messed with. I've never seen a dog be more violent and vicious than he is if you touch that kennel door.

This is why I own a golden and Aussie. Anything less than 30-40 lbs tends to be a-hole dogs with aggravating high pitch barks and unpredictable tendencies. Plus can’t hold their bladders as long.

You wouldn’t need to crate it at night if it could hold its bladder, or go to the door when it needs to piss or shite. My friend has 2 short hair dachshunds and both are skiddish and aggressive as hell.

One of my dogs is a Dachsund mix and apparently his personality is 100% dachshund because he is an a-hole to everyone except me, but a buddy of mine growing up had one and I remember that dog was a son of a bitch to everyone except my friend's dad.

He didn't bite me, but I remember that dog was laying on near the TV remote and for whatever reason I was getting the remote and it snapped and growled at me. I picked him up and started petting him, then for the rest of the night, after his dad went to bed, he didn't leave my side.

You look like you got attacked by a wolverine.

I grew up with dachshunds, my parents had three of them over the years. They are mean as all hell. They were bred to hunt badgers, you need a savage attitude for that.

Have to admit, I’m not a fan of them.

Have two dachshunds now and had one as a kid. They all have different personalities, but one we have now has bitten my wife multiple times and my two daughters. Each time it’s been when he was sleeping and didn’t want to be bothered. When he’s in his bed or sleeping, we leave him alone.

One bite was so bad, my wife needed stitches and doctors have to report dog bites, so he has a record. Our other dachshund is scared of his shadow and wouldn’t hurt a fly.

Also, we considered putting the a-hole down, but my wife couldn’t do it. We’ve learned to deal with him and his space and put him in the laundry room when people come over.

We had a dog that did that to me several times. The last time I had him by the throat with him making gurgling sounds. My wife was freaking out so I allowed him to live. She couldn’t bring herself to let me have him put to sleep. He was a catahoula mix, scared of his own shadow, hated kids, passive aggressive to the point of destroying 3 couches, had extreme food aggression, bi-polar, etc. I hated that dog. He had an attachment to my wife and she was soft hearted, up until the day he screwed up and bit her. He was sent to doggie hell after that. She made the decision without my input. LOL

Delivered pizzas for 5 years. Only bite I received in all that time with uncountable dog encounters of every breed was from a weiner dog.

Little shite ran out of the doorway did a 180 and latched onto the back of my ankle.

I hope you can look at the big picture regarding being bitten. Dachshunds typically have a razor thin attitude. Has anything changed recently in your home? Our dachshund has bitten my wife and daughter, each on a separate occasion. The dog bit when startled while sleeping both times.

I hope you are able to work things out with your pup. I am not judging. Dogs by and large will not bite unless provoked or scared. Cesar Milan (the dog whisperer) says there is no such thing as a bad dog. There are just bad dog owners. He is basically referring to the relationship between dogs and their owners.

Hang in there. Don't give up on your pup. Hopefully things work out. Take care!

What were you doing to him? No way that was unprovoked.

Some dogs are just screw balls. The OP probably did nothing wrong. You obviously have never owned a weird dog. The dog I described in my post would look out the window and see a kid and then go nuts barking and would destroy a couch, attack my lab or try to bite anyone near by. We got him when he was a puppy and he was never mistreated. He was just nuts and unpredictable.
