jk, but dead is dead, those dudes were putting it out there on behalf of the U.S., don't think the distinction of war time v. peace time is of much consolation to their survivors

let him take his ASVAB if he scores in the 70s request a DLAB. if he passes that then he'll have a chance in the CT field. pretty safe there and great opportunities in the civilian life. if he ends up in the CT community then go for CTN, which is networking. that's the set up right there. im a linguist and it's not bad, but just not my cup of tea.

Joining the military was the best decision I made. It allowed me to get my degree and now I have completed 25 years working for a federal law enforcement agency. It's a great start to a career.IMO

he is also not very smart and did not do well in normal high school. I don't see him doing very well on any tests that they would have to take before hand

Great, he should fit in perfectly. That's why people join the navy. Not smart enough for the other technical branch, don't want to actually play military, also pulled by a strong love of the penis.

I would encourage him to at least finish trade school, and if he's still not happy then re-think it. It's not a bad idea these days, since college is a waste of time and money.

The ASVAB test is taken before you sign anything.

He will know what his options are (or lack thereof) when he gets his results.

public school will do that to people.

a few years of the navy should improve him for the better.

Never met a Navy Nuke have you. No other enlisted job really compares in any branch of the military. Most Nukes score 90+ on the ASVAB.

The USS Cole might have something to say about that.

I stand corrected. The USS Stark was struck by an Iraqi warplane while on patrol in the gulf while I was in Navy C school about 1988.

The two ships damaged by mines were hit during the 1990 Gulf War.

The Cole was the warship attacked by terrorist in 2000 while sitting in port.

My apologies, my mistake. I am getting old :P

Either way, for the most part no one has/can frick with the US Navy...pretty safe branch of the military to be in.

Best six years of my life were in the navy. I was in from '96-2002. Traveled the world, made great lifetime friends, and became disciplined. Although I don't work in a field related to what I learned in the navy, the skill set I gained carried over to the success I have in life now.

I'd recommend it to anybody thinking about taking that route.

Just pointing out that the smartest group is probably in the Navy and not another technical branch

You should talk him into it.

This country doesn't have enough people ready to murder folks.

And what's the worst that could happen? He comes back in a bodybag and you spend the rest of your life dealing with the guilt of talking him into it.
