If he's dead set on the navy and joining the seabees, then get him this as well:
Pretty much everything he will need to survive for the first 3 months until he gets out of basic. Also, tell him to volunteer any chance he gets at Great Lakes if you want to play a solid joke on him.

(1) If you have to study for the ASVAB, you're going to see a lot of haze gray
(2) Bluejacket would be worth a read
(3) I was MedYeoman in boot...Had 0 clue what that entailed, but it made my life and the other yeomen in the class stupid easy compared to the rest of the boots..
