Hospice is trained to answer all of your questions. They will also give you the best guesstimate in the business of the time frame ahead- of when she passes to heaven.

cherish every moment...make it a priority to see her

Im boarded in Hospice and Pallative Medicine. The answer to you question depends on many variables. To be hospice eligible though a patient must have a life expectancy of less than 6 months with out agressive disease altering treatment.

Don't know why you're getting downvoted, this is 100% true

you don't tell us what syndrome she has and you don't share the prognosis.
how can we tell you anything time related?
go see her and let her know you love her.
rinse repeat.
once a week until she is gone.

Just went through this with my dad, lung cancer. The staff,at least at this facility is highly trained and know this signs. She was able to call and give me about an hours notice before he passed.
Best I can tell you is speach to the nurses and ask what they expect, they have seen it all. In my dads case is was told he could pass any minute if he threw a blood clot or cancer would cause him to not want to eat of drink giving him about a week to live. Thankfully he had a blood clot and it was quick and painless. Just had memorial service for him yesterday.

My dad has been in Hospice care for a month now. He has been batting cancer for a couple years He's 83 now and this last year has been rough with all the hospital stays ( month at a time). He actually has been doing better since getting put in Hospice but I know that his time is limited. I'm 49 and I've cried more in the last month then I have my whole life. My kids are taking it hard also but it really hurt them seeing me break down... I try my hardest not to show it but this is hard, I don't sleep a lot of nights fearing that phone call when I leave his house most days. He's been the best dad, my hero and my best friend my whole life

Respitory issues. They can't do the surgery that is needed to figure out why she's having the issues

Not sure why all the down votes. I'm sure not meant to the op personally.
No one dies with dignity. Just how it is.
I've had hospice for several family members.

Most likely treatment will be in the form of anti anxiety meds and pain meds to relax her breathing at times. Everyone is different tho as far as treatment goes. Hang in there

My heart aches for you. I lost both parents and a brother within two years. But I view death as a new beginning for them and a release from the pain and trials of this world. Your Dad will always be with you. Look for the signs.
I pray for comfort for you and your family as well as that of the OP.

Hospice will keep her comfortable ... contrary to belief it doesn't always mean death SOON. I work in a nursing home and have seen people on Hospice for a year.
Hospice typically does a great job with the families as well .. information, support.

Does that vary by state? I swear we've had people on hospice for longer than 6 months ... we've got one now that has liver disease and medically is a picture of health. We've also got a CHF man who's been under Hospice for close to a year if not more.
In some cases, I do wonder what they're doing for the resident/family that the NH can't do ... NOT in most cases but in a couple for sure.
