Is there a cheaper alternative to these $400 things? I've looked at Kindles, they're significantly cheaper. A little smaller though. She seems to have her heart set on a iPad but I told her outright I'd just buy her a Kindle.

I bought a used iPad 2 off glyde.com for my 3 year old as a Christmas present for like $110. It's flawless. Maybe try a used one.

the new kindle hds go up to 10 inch screens. I got an 8 and I love it.

She has a really good job. It's kind of a present, not a gimme. She's been looking at them for a few months now. I was going to get her one for christmas but SHTF with work and I wasn't able to find a good deal on the one she wanted.
She's not a very needy woman. She does her own thing and buys a lot of stuff on her own. I was just trying to be nice and get her something like this.
It's weird, she's not all gimme gimme gimme when it comes to expensive shite like purses, jewelry, etc. She'd rather buy hunting/shooting gear etc. That's kind of why I don't feel as bad buying this for her
