On the first day of the term, I gave the class my office hours for the semester. On Fridays, I shared that day, I'm normally there between 8:00-9:00 a.m. However, tomorrow I'm at ________________ for a one-day conference. I'll be here all next week, specifically in the office, on the days and times I have scheduled office hours. If you don't have those written down in the course's booklet, you can find my office hours--and those of all full-time faculty members--by visiting the following link:

Your friend should email this back:

Wouldn't it have been much easier and less time consuming to just tell me the office hours instead of being an insufferable, condescending prick?

The difference being I succeeded at college, and didn’t have to blame some faux injury for my struggles.

You pussy.

I did. I mean I know I look like a pussy but when I send respect I don't want him to refer to his office hours via hyperlink. That and telling the chair I have an emergency surgery and she tell me if it's not done, even with a doctor's note, she wouldn't accept it. I want to learn and this pisses me off that he treats 18 yr olds like this.

I've been out of school for 10 years. I did great in eng 007 and comp I. We never did or learned this. Comp I was creative writing and when I told the chair this, she told me I should know it anyway.

I'll admit this is beyond fricked and I look stupid but I want to continue on in college.

I get fricked with for asking but honestly if I didn't ask I would be worse off.

Yes because it's my fault the VA 4 HRS away cancelled my appointment then I felt so sick after giving up hope I went straight to the doctors and then the ER the following day. The VA then immediatly started calling private oral surgons for ASAP surgery.

Your friend needs to get tough and finish his paper. This is snowflake behavior.

Sounds like a bunch excuse-making to me. If you actually cared, you’d man up and handle your business.

Yet here you are, hours later, typing on a message board after crying about not being able to type a paper.

You’re a fricking puss, and your father is probably ashamed of you.

1) Your service entitles you to financial aid. It does not entitle you to a degree, a passing grade, or special treatment.

2) Your professor does not work for you. You are not entitled to his time outside of the classroom and office hours. You are not entitled to a response to your emails. The only thing you are entitled to is his judgment in the form of a grade, assuming you turn your work in.

3) Stop posting and start writing. The amount of text you have dropped in this thread would probably fill two pages. If you can't figure out how to complete your assignments, seek tutoring help. Otherwise, figure out how to cheat effectively like the other 10-20% of students in your class who are probably already doing this.

I had an 80 year old professor that tought a class on how to use Word and Excel my freshman year. She was a real bitch. It was a 9 week course all freshmen had to take. I got hit by a car during dead week and broke a bunch of bones in my legs. Had a couple surgeries right away and I was so high off painkillers during finals week I didn’t know who or where I was. All of my professors let me take my finals after Christmas break, except for this lady. She had a policy that all exemptions from finals on the test date had to be made prior to the week before, and she would not budge. I had to take it up with the business college to get an exemption for a class on how to use fricking Microsoft Word. Still check the Lincoln obits every once in a while, unfortunately people like her live to 100

I agree completely and not using my status as a veteran to get by. Simple respect and help should be offered when asked, especially in conferences that we've had.

This is a community college and I have forwarded the requirements to a few friends and they say it's ridiculous. Not to mention again, but is a teacher telling me I should know this is bs and if so why am I doing it.

Thanks everyone for the advice it will get done. I didn't post this but not afraid to ask.

I don't know your situation, and don't want to minimize anything, but sometimes this is the very best advice a teacher can give, and is more help than anything else they could do.

It's possible that he believes you are good enough to do it, and doesn't want you to waste the opportunity to learn by just giving you an essentially worthless shortcut to false success.

Did you try to figure it out? Did you learn anything while doing it?

What did he do that is disrespectful? It looks like he respectfully informed you that he is unavailable to meet outside of regularly scheduled office hours because he is attending a conference, which (believe it or not) is as much a part of his job as teaching.

Go to the library and have them walk you through the various ways to access these resources

In the internet age, too many people don't know this anymore, but Librarians can do damn near anything when it comes to finding out about things.

If you are really stuck about knowledge, a Librarian can unstick you.
