I’m an alcoholic in early recovery. Go to a meeting. Keep yourself busy. Immerse yourself in something. Most importantly, go to a meeting.

Find a meeting near you. There will be people there who will be happy to help you.

I’m curious why AA people always recommend a meeting? 2-3 drinks a weeknight and hammered on the weekend sounds like almost everyone I know’s college experience. I recommend cold turkey for a month and take it from there (it’s not like he’s drinking enough to go through physical withdrawals)

Why are you drinking? Can’t enjoy life without it?

1. His drinking is causing a problem with his marriage.

2. The amount of alcohol doesn't necessarily mean it's easy to quit cold turkey. Your body gets used to having alcohol and when it doesn't get that, it reacts to the absence. Even small amounts, if consumed daily, the body gets used to it and will react, sometimes not in a good way.

Drink every day, often to excess and my wife has given me an ultimatum. What should I do before my drinking becomes a problem?

Cause most people get past that somewhere between college and marriage

A 750ml bottle of wine would not give me much of a noticeable buzz. Source - I've drank many bottles of wine in my life.

It's essentially the equivalent of 5 Miller Lites.

I only drink on the weekends but the more I drink, the more I drink. I have been exercising since the whole lockdown deal which hopefully helps my frame of mind. This past weekend, went on a boating trip, for fun. Got hammered, again.

Told my wife I don’t want to drink anymore because I don’t have self control. Just got back from a 5 mile jog and feels a bit better then how I feel on a Sunday morning.

If you just escalated it or started it after the covid shutdown's you aren't too far a long. Listen to your wife though. Whatever she told you, most likely she's going to do and you did something or said something you don't even remember or realize. Alcohol effects different people differently. If you lose control of your actions under the influence of it, can't remember what you said or did under it, it's probably not the best mind altering substance for you.

We split one a few nights per week. It does nothing to me.
