This was one of the most traumatic events that I have had to deal with in my life. He was an old dog that was bound to meet his maker soon, but he should have not gone like that.

That being said, I am also a 2 time cancer survivor at 33 years old, so I know about traumatic shite happening in life, but this event has put a hole in my heart.

My mom got Covid while taking care of her mom last week and cannot get back to my Dad until at the very least the 1st of February.

Can I get some advice from the board on what I should do?

If you've battled cancer, and won, TWICE then you're a survivor. You'll be okay. Does your mom have someone caring for her or at least bringing her meals?

I'm sorry about your dog. I bet you gave him a wonderful life. You said he was old, so I'm sure you did. He knows you loved him. I know that might sound cheesy, but pets know about that stuff.

I'll say some prayers for you. Try to find some comfort in something bigger than yourself. Go outside and take some time for yourself in nature. That usually helps me.

I’m just completely devastated right now and I don’t know what to think and why I am posting this on a message board.

JFC dude. One day at a time.

I know some people aren't like me but I almost always get another puppy soon after the death of a dog. For me dealing with and enjoying a new pup helps keep my mind off of the bad. I do know for some it tends to focus them back on their other dog.

Bury your dog. Take care of your dad until your mom can return, assuming he needs care.

Two time cancer survivor? You can handle this with a tincture of time.

They are in Florida and I cannot be there because of work. My Dad is ok but feels the guilt that it was his fault it happened, which it isn’t.

There was zero ill intention in my posting the cartoon as it shows just how great dogs are to us. I hope & pray you find the comfort needed during this time.

Go get a puppy? The dog didn't feel anything. His life didn't flash before his eyes. He didn't think of you, or anyone else while drowning because he can't think. I know it sounds callous but I've lost dogs over the years. I know how it goes. It sucks. Sorry for your loss.
